Casino busted: It was blatantly operating near major store - shuttle from Pattaya brought gamblers

A large scale casino was busted by protection agency personnel and DSI commandos yesterday in a depot in the shadow of a major shopping center in Rayong.

More than 100 gamblers were playing casino games like "Dragon Tiger" cards, Hi-Lo and slot machines using cash and chips.

A DSI chief said it was operating openly and flagrantly - people were even bused in from Pattaya in shuttles to come and play.

It had a turnover of 12 million baht a day. A total of 700,000 baht was seized yersterday.

Unlike in previous busts not one person escaped the raid - DSI commandos surrounded the facility as the protection agency ascertained that their suspicions were not unfounded.

A total of 106 gamblers and 12 staff were taken off to the Rayong town hall for processing.

The police were then called to come and prosecute them.

The local police were not involved in the bust apart from that - Thaivisa notes that gambling often takes place in connivance with local police turning a blind eye.

It would not be surprising if transfers followed in this case as the inquiry is expanded.

Those present were prosecuted for gambling, running a gambling operation and breaking Covid-19 rules.

The casino was part of a group called RJ that was hounded out of Ubon Ratchathani in the north east only to set up elsewhere.

Casinos and gambling operations exist all over Thailand with their location known to almost everyone. This one was operating in the shadow of Tesco Lotus Maptaphut branch in Muang district Rayong.

"it had a turnover of 12 million baht a day" I hope none of these gamblers were in the queues for food handouts......:whistling:

You do not open and operate a casino without getting approval...this is more likely a high level official takeover of the gambling business...from a less powerful corrupt "businessman"...

Gee…that's absolutely astonishing. How could a gambling operation of this scale possibly escape notice for so long by the professional, conscientious, reliable, trustworthy, hard-working, honorable and 100% honest police force?

Dunno. 🙂

So they were hounded out of Ubon and set up in Rayong.  Clearly any penalties were insufficiently severe.

Why is a tariff of penalties not published so all who frequent these establishments know what will happen to them? This type of set-up warrants prison sentences. Out in my neck of the woods, where dominoes for a few baht is the highlight of most peoples lives, it is known they will be fined 1,000baht if caught. Wearing their mandatory village uniform, the Pa tung, it is somewhat difficult to flee
