Samui Police explore different theories in death of Ukrainian woman

Police on the holiday island of Koh Samui are lending weight to the theory that the Ukrainian woman found dead there last weekend died from illness or possibly suicide.

She had been dead for approximately two weeks when she was found. She was covered in palm tree fronds, a fact that led investigators to initially surmise that she had been murdered.

But now other evidence has emerged and police are changing their opinion though a definitive cause of death is reportedly weeks away.

Sanook said that Surat Thani chief of police Pol Maj-Gen Thakoon Netphukkana revealed Wednesday that extensive studies of CCTV in the area indicated that Olha Frolova, 31, had left a motorcycle repair shop alone and that no one was anywhere near her on a one hour walk she made into a wooded area.

Police have further determined that both her estranged Ukrainian husband and a new love interest in the form of a British fitness trainer had nothing whatsoever to do with her death.

Dimas Frolov told Thaivisa yesterday that he believed his wife took her own life. She was suffering from bipolar disorder and medications were found inside a backpack along with a purse and 700 baht.

Sanook further reported that the victim's phone had been found in her bag.

(Thaivisa cautions that this information seems strange given that the chief of police earlier in the week had ordered an expanded 100 meter radius search to find it).

The contents of the phone indicated that she had used it "all day and all night" posting about killing herself.

The media suggested that police believe it was possible that Olha got tired during her walk and made a bed of palm fronds then pulled some over herself to protect her from the sun.

Police are not sure what happened but believe it was death from suicide or a medical condition.

Sanook said it would be TWO WEEKS before a cause of death could be ascertained, information that also flew in the face of previous reports in the Thai and English language press.

If she wanted to be sure she wasn’t found before she died, and so was not revived, that would fit the setting and the palm frond covering.

If her medication was not working properly and no one here could get it properly regulated that could lead to end it all thoughts and actions.

Very sad

RIP young woman.

I don't suppose a post mortem done by a competent pathologist has entered their minds? Along with preserving the potential crime scene, or other professional policing techniques?

What the hell wild speculation seems to work most of the time.

Wait for the autopsy report to confirm her cause of death, then suicide.

"CCTV showed Olha had returned and rented a motorbike on May 25, the last day she was seen alive.

She also left her passport at the shop and sold her mobile phone in order to pay the bill and was later spotted returning to the shop with Phillip."

So to clarify. Now they have found the phone, it was in her bag

all the time, but they were looking everywhere for it ,and

first reported they could not find it, yet it is confirmed she had just sold it to pay debts and the police retrieved the phone from the shop where she had just sold it!!!

Clear as mud, and any hope I had this case would be solved is gone. RIP young lady.
