Popular Post webfact
Thailand is ranked 2nd in global COVID-19 recovery index Source: wwwcovid19.who.int Thailand is ranked second in the Global COVID-19 Index (GCI) after Australia, and first in Asia in the same index Government spokeswoman Mrs. Narumon Pinyosinwat told the media on Sunday that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has expressed his thanks to everyone in the country for their discipline and endurance in the collective efforts to fight and prevent the spread of COVID-19. The GCI, developed by PEMADU Associates, in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Innovations of Malaysia (MOSTI) and the Sunway Group, have used a big data system in the scoring and ranking of 184 countries facing the pandemic. 70% of the score comes from the fatalities from COVID-19 in each country as a proportion of the population, and the remaining 30% comes from the scores from Global Health Security (GHS), initiated and developed by John Hopkins University, to assess the readiness of each country to cope with the pandemic. Popular Post webfact
Thailand among countries recovering best from COVID-19 epidemic BANGKOK(NNT)-The Prime Minister has thanked all Thai people for their contribution to the fight against COVID-19, saying that have helped place Thailand second among countries recovering best from the COVID-19 epidemic. Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha thanked all Thai people for their discipline, strength, patience and effort to prevent the spread of the viral epidemic, that helped Thailand rank as the best placed country to have recovered from COVID-19 in Asia, and rank second among 184 countries recovering successfully from COVID-19 worldwide. The rankings were conducted on June 11 by PEMADU Associates in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Innovation (MOSTI) of Malaysia and the Sunway group, which used a big data analysis system to find out how well each country had responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. To decide rankings, 70 percent of the score was assessed from the drive and changes of the daily situation based on the number of patients under treatment; the rate of cured patients per number of patients; the number of tests per confirmed patients and the number of tests per population of the whole country, while another 30 percent was based on statistical data collected from the Global Health Security (GHS) Index and from the ranking results above. The government is well aware that what was socially necessary during the COVID-19 epidemic was often difficult for the people but all parties cooperated very well, enabling Thailand to overcome the crisis. Popular Post rasmus5150
If you only test a small percentage with faulty tests, and also "try" to fiddle the actual numbers so you can spin that Thailand is safe - then I'm surprised that Thailand did not come in 1st place. 18 8 4

Popular Post Somtamnication
Setting the politics aside and disdain for all things military, cough cough, Thailand actually did a great job controlling the virus. Popular Post Bkk Brian
We have some rather creative journalism going on here with conflicting reports on the data used to compile these rankings. In the NNT National News Bureau of Thailand report it states: "To decide rankings, 70 percent of the score was assessed from the drive and changes of the daily situation based on the number of patients under treatment; the rate of cured patients per number of patients; the number of tests per confirmed patients and the number of tests per population of the whole country" The above in my opinion is complete spin and not a true reflection of how the data was complied, how a country like Thailand with such low testing ratios compared to the rest of the world could get ranked so high? The truth probably being that the data was not at all compiled as above. The actual data gathering for the first 70% score assessment did not include testing information or data on number of daily patients under treatment at all. Instead it relied solely on the number of deaths per captia as stated in their report: "Proportionate Death Rate due to COVID-19 This parameter takes into consideration the crude death rates of each country and factors its population size, and then compares this to the death rates due to COVID-19 since the first case was reported in the country. This gives a true reflection of how death rates are being affected by COVID-19 in these countries. The remaining 30% consist of static scores derived from the Global Health Security Index (GHS), an initiative led by the Johns Hopkins University that was funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The GHS was developed to assess a country’s readiness to cope and handle any epidemic." https://covid19.pemandu.org/about/ 5

moe666
Just think, what if Thailand had been chosen number 1, O dear me we would never here the end of it. Just face it Thailand did a very good job of getting the virus under control. That goes back to the sars epidemic which many asian countries cut there teeth on and covid was not a great suprise as it has been in western countries. TomJoad
Thailand doesn't have a "Fox News" (i.e. Rupert Murdoch) who can turn something as simple as wearing masks into a political issue. 110,000 dead in America because that orange-tinted idiot only played golf and held campaign rallies all of February. That would be my question, why is Vietnam so far down the list? But by the same token, I was in Hanoi from Feb. 28 to March 11 (in other words, till about two weeks before everything started shutting down everywhere) and while the government was doing a pretty careful job, I still got the impression that, as with Thailand, a lot of it was luck. The regular shop keepers and semi-employed types were hanging out together (more like squatting down together) like nothing was happening, and in Hanoi itself apparently nothing much DID happen, though several other places in the north were cut off and quarantined for periods of time. I continue to think the climate or some natural immunity or something else has been going on. 2
