rooster59
U-tapao International Airport and Eastern Airport City Project contracts signed Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha chaired the signing ceremony at Government House for a Public Private Partnership (PPP) Agreement for the U-tapao International Airport and Eastern Airport City projects. The deal is between the Eastern Economic Corridor Office of Thailand (EECO) and U-tapao International Aviation Company Limited (BBS Joint Venture). This is a major infrastructure project to upgrade U-tapao to become Bangkok’s third commercial international airport, linked with the Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang international airports via high-speed train. The project will also create a business development hub in the 30km around the airport. Big Guns
A project which has zero economic justification. It's destined to becomea white elephant & will create massive levels of corruption & misery for local residents in Ban Chang. The consultation with local residents in Eastern Star was its going ahead & if you object you can take us to court. 1

Very good road links now, east and west. with the opening of the new expressway, upgrade of electricity supply, communications and water supply and an international airport a few kilometres along a duel carriageway. New Mega Home opened on the back of it and lots of other businesses in the pipeline, including plans for a Big C and upgraded Tesco. I call that progress for the residents of BC. Oh just to add, the main runway flight paths do not go over BC. Edited June 20, 2020 by Pilotman

The Eastern Economic Corridor is a massive multi-billion project of which Utapao airport expansion is an integral part.

Without the EEC, Thailand will be left behind and won't be able to compete in an increasingly fast developing and competitive ASEAN region. It's the life line that Thailand needs to stay afloat. With the Pattaya-Mapthaput expressway now partially open (and the extension from U-Tapao to Mapthaput and the other interchanges opening by Sep 1), I hope to see ground broken on the Chonburi-Prachinburi-Nakorn Ratchasima expressway soon too. Thailand has made decent progress on the infrastructure front in recent years, but it needs to pick up the pace a little.

When you see how decaying and inadequate the UK and US road systems are, not to mention, in the case of the UK, the continuing lack of runway/terminal capacity in the south east and the appalling rail system, Thailand is a beacon of progress.
