MEA - Electricity Discounts, 3 months?

I'm trying to understand the MEA electricity discounts during COVID-19. I believe that they are offering us the same rates as our March bill, as far as we use less than 800 units of electricity and this is only for a 3 month period. Is this correct? Is it only for 3 months or has this been extended?

I believe it is for 3 months...I had not heard of any extension yet because the idea was to tide people over during hot season. But I'll take what I can get

So that means we all have one more month left. June's bill to arrive around mid-July. Then it's back to full rates again.

We are with PEA and it started in March and ended in May, i.e. March bill was taken from February's bill and April and May the same, so unless MEA are different, it might work out different, but just asked the wife as I am typing and she said same, same, so I would expect it to be over red rover.

My understanding is you get three bills equal to the one you received between 16 Feb and 15 March, minus 3%.  I did not get any discount on my bill from 3 April, but did on 3 May and 3 June.  I am expecting 3 July to be discounted, too.

I was thinking it was a sort of rebate , as we didn't get much of a discount first time round .

Like you say , who can really explain it.

It is your bill amount issued in late feb/early March , minus the 3% they had initially given, for the three bills starting in May.  Typically saving about one third.

Same with me with PEA. Only 86 refund first month, just over 2000 a week ago. I'm expecting one further discount (so three in all).

we got 40% discount this month, neighbour who uses more got zero discount, asked women across the road who works at the electricity office even she could not explain it

If she used less than Feb, then no savings.

Had 2 free months now! The May bill came to 1293 THB (341 units) and June was 1172 THB (301 units) and amount to pay 0.00. One more month to go and thank you PEA.

Be careful..if your Feb bill was zero, that makes sense, but I got a bill for zero, while they were taking a few weeks to recalculate.  Then 1238.99 shows up.

I don't think you will get another discount, only 3% of your next bill, with PEA. Well that's what happened with us anyway in Hang Dong.

I think the discounts were tiered. Less than 150 units, free. 150 to 800 units same as February bill. Greater than 800 units I am not sure but probably the 3%.

I had 2 good discount in April and May. May was about a third of calculated so a 66% discount.

My February bill was what I was billed for in April and May which was about 1300 baht so I should have another one today being the last of the discounts.

Last month used 712 units approx 3000 baht which is a fantastic discount seeing as I only paid 1300 baht .

Told my wife and kids no aircon next month back to fans .

I think you pay for the consumption you had in the February bill. It's not MEA or PEA's idea. They are forced by the government. On top of 3 months with reduced cost you also get 3% off. They did talk about an eventual 4th month,it might depend on if they open entertainment venues in July or not.

Feb bill was 888 THB. Apparently according to the family we are on 3 free months here in Bang Saphan Noi. I will let you know next month.

Could a credit for your deposit have anything to do with it?

No. We have 2 properties here on the plot and 4 meters. 1 for our house, 1 for the mother in law, 1 for the water pump and filtration and 1 spare. The last 2 are always free as they are under the consumption figures yet mother in law has had to pay for the last 2 months but very small amounts. Just our house on the total freebie. I have no idea why!

Latest bill arrived at 728 units, therefore below the 800 units threshold. Got the 3% discount but not the, three month retrospective, same as February reduction. Maybe because last month we exceeded 800 units? When there is no obvious 'small print' it's impossible to know.  Maybe someone better at reading Thai can confirm. We did get some reduction and not complaining.

  • 2 weeks later...

Here is the latest...my last two bills were Feb bill minus 3%..so I was kind of expecting my bill coming any moment would be the third, and final, "February Match.". I read my meter last week and was only at 250 kwh.  I thought, what a shame..my bill might be less than Febs of 317 units (I was at the beach for five days)..but, according to the message on my app..they say I overpaid March

..meaning they are retroactively going back to the one that was skipped..and saying I have a credit for 140 THB..(March usage was only 30 units more than Feb).  But..they give you a link, and it looks like you have to do something on the app to get the credit..in Thai...we'll see what my bill says later today.

I saw in your last month's quote where you use their app for the meter usage history. I have tried to do it on their website but cannot find the correct Ref. No. & PEA number on my old bills (have not received one for 2 months so had to go to the local office to pay). Called their help line but no one could speak enough English or knew what is on the website. Can you help?
