webfact
Pattaya official tells media of beach booze ban mission Picture: 77kaoded Thai media 77kaoded reported that Pattaya's municipal officers were out on the beach in the North Pattaya area on Sunday night at 10.30 pm. Deputy of the "tessakit" Noppradon Wirawat said his mission was fourfold: 1. To stop people drinking alcoholic beverages in a public setting. 2. To encourage social distancing. 3. To encourage mask wearing. 4. To keep the area clean from food waste and discarded bottles and cans. This was necessary to ensure that Pattaya was liveable and people were following the government's Covid-19 rules, he said. Popular Post Pedrogaz
What on earth is the problem of people driving on the beach? These folk are on holiday by the way. Do they leave trash? Well pay someone 300 baht a day to clean it up or make vendors do it? Or is it some fundamental moral objection to alcohol, that you just can't bring yourselves to say out loud as it will deter tourists. Thailand is attractive to people because it is free-wheeling, not because alcohol is likely to be banned.

ukrules
Is it in fact illegal to drink on a beach? I suspect it's not.
Guderian
Good for the tessakit. Look at what's happening in Melbourne now, and all because people ignored distancing and invited too many guests to their homes. Unless we want the curfew back, roadblocks on Sukhumvit and alcohol banned again, then we need to observe the few remaining restrictions. We've had it safe and easy here, don't mess it up please. Oldie
"Deputy of the "tessakit" Noppradon Wirawat said his mission was fourfold: 1. To stop people drinking alcoholic beverages in a public setting. 2. To encourage social distancing. 3. To encourage mask wearing. 4. To keep the area clean from food waste and discarded bottles and cans. " This all does not make sense to me anymore. Just came across the Tree Town area on my way home. It was 11 pm. The two bars are still closed but very many people (tourists and ladies, ladymen) without masks standing and sitting there and drinking alcohol in the public. Looked like a party. People could not stand closer to each other. There was also music but not too noisy. Endless empty beer bottles and cans were standing around. A police car was standing there with blinking red lights. A police man was standing next to the car. But that was all the action I could see. After a while the police car drove away and I continued my journey home. Seems to be a great party place even without bars. Someone put there many public benches so that you can sit. Perhaps an approved party place? Edited June 22, 2020 by Oldie

holy cow cm
Utterly ridiculous how much of a nanny state Thailand is becoming. One should be allowed to enjoy a beverage in nature.
