Popular Post webfact
Leading ecologist says Pattaya is the cleanest and most beautiful in twenty years - great time to visit! Pictures: Thon Thamrongnawasawat Pattaya has received a massive thumbs up from one of Thailand's leading marine ecologists, conservationists and travel writers. In fact the experienced commentator said it is a Pattaya that he has never even seen before. Professor Thon Thamrongnawasawat - a lecturer at Bangkok's Kasetsart university who has written more than 100 books - said that Pattaya was the cleanest he had seen in two decades. Even the sea was clean enough and the wide open expanse of sand with no one on it was fantastic. Few boats moving added to beautiful vistas. But he didn't stop there - the resort was marvellously quiet due to the lack of tourists and value for money. He advised all his friends to come now and not miss the opportunity that has presented itself due to the coronavirus pandemic. He also hoped that Pattaya would use this downtime valuably so that the future could continue to be bright. Thon, who has also been a government and Pattaya city council advisor in the past, was reporting on Facebook about a business trip he just made. Image source: Daily News He said that there were some Thai tourists and foreign residents at the weekend but during the week it was lovely and quiet. In the last 15-20 years of visits this was the most beautiful he had ever seen it. Thon said that everything was shut down by 9pm. The lovely spacious sands were lapped by water that was "clear enough" and there was no plastic waste to be seen. There were clearly defined smoking areas and a swimming area cordoned off was being utilised by children mostly. The beach road footpath was wide and shady and well maintained. Most boats in the bay were moored. The views were sensational. Bars, tour businesses and markets were shuttered and there were just a few hawkers - the Thai tourists had little to buy. In the city itself there were noticeably fewer song thaews (baht buses) and motorcycle taxis, less noise from horns Image source: Daily News His hotel was busy on Saturday and there were enough places open like restaurants and coffee shops that would make his friends happy. He said that his opinion was guaranteed - after all he has made many trips per year for twenty years, he should know. "I loved it," he gushed. "I will be back with my friends. It is a Pattaya I have never seen before". He even compared Pattaya's cleanliness favorable to the upmarket Thong Lo/Ekamai area where he lives in Bangkok. And on top of all this the cheap two for one deals at the moment make it a perfect time to visit, said Thon. He accepted that Pattaya would get busy again and recovery might start towards the end of the year. He hoped that the local authorities would use this downtime wisely to make infrastructure improvements and press on with plans for the monorail that were first mooted a decade ago when he was an advisor to the city council. In fact some places, just off the main roads, are pretty disgusting as people dump their rubbish there, motorcycle guys use certain areas as toilets and so on.

toho
Very nice to hear an "expert" opinion from a pro. Probably happy to please authorities by telling this story, which is also useful to lure tourists. I happen to live close to the beach in Jomtien for more than 15 years and I see following: - during curfew and lockdown nice, quiet and clean indeed, even too quiet. Now "normal" live has returned a little bit: - especially during the weekends very busy: mo problem, good for business - people leave their garbage on boulevard and beach: plastic, bottles, loose bottle caps, cigarette butts (which "expert" ordered to place garbage containers on opposite side of busy beach road?) - immature guys riding motorbikes with too loud exhaust pipes (why no fines?) - no social distancing, but sabai-sabai flocking together, blocking side walks, no mouthcaps - leave beach road and go into the sois: dirty, plastic, 3rth world Jomtien beach was renovated not too long ago, however; - top layer of concrete on road and side walk disappearing, leaving dangerous and ugly spots - many dead trees (Dongtan beach) not replaced I think they will have to do some extra work. Then someday I can also enjoy this area to the fullest. Can not wait to experience that nice feeling. 1
