Police in Bangkok’s Min Buri district have launched a manhunt for the driver of a black Volvo who ran over and killed a five-month pregnant woman on Sunday (June 21).

Thanayut Puttipeng, 19, was on a motorbike with his pregnant girlfriend Nadiyah, 21, in the Sunwinthawong neighbourhood at around 10.30pm, when they were suddenly hit by a car. The victim slid off the bike upon impact and was crushed to death as the car drove off.

CCTV images show the car stopped 8 kilometres from the accident site, where the driver came out and waved down a taxi.

Police have seized the Volvo and sent it to the Forensics Department for examination.

Investigators have found that the car initially belonged to a woman, who sold it to a man in 2016. The man died in 2019, leaving the car to his girlfriend, who claimed it had been stolen by her dead boyfriend’s friend.

How in the world is the RTP going to get their head around this? Better go back to fine people floating the face mask rules.

A car mechanic who ran over and killed a pregnant woman on Sunday (June 21) gave himself up to police today.

Police in Bangkok’s Min Buri district had issued an arrest warrant for Kawin Sathorn, 48, for killing a woman who was five months pregnant.

The 21-year-old victim, named only as Nadiyah, was on a motorbike with her boyfriend in the Sunwinthawong neighbourhood when they were hit by a black Volvo at around 10.30pm. The impact knocked her off the bike and she was crushed to death as the car drove off. Police say CCTV images show the Volvo stopped 11 kilometres away and the driver got out and hailed a taxi. They have seized the vehicle for forensic investigation.

Kawin walked into the police station at 11am and told investigators that he had lost control of the car after suffering a burst tyre.

'Morally bankrupt'?

More like a disgusting and sickening accepted part of Thai culture.

Accepted part of Thai culture.. I guess that is why it gets so much attention in Thai media and why people are angry.

Did the friend of the dead boyfriend also supply watches to politicians?

Or enough friends that go around in ever decreasing circles to the point the police get dizzy trying to work it out give up...

I hope the CCTV of a person getting out of the car and into a taxi sheds some light on who the perp was, or find the taxi driver who can identify someone.

Evidently, the Moral Compass of people in this part of the world start functioning only when heat is applied, lots of heat.

Burst tyre, but able to drive enough away from the incident to dump the car. What a hero, making sure no alcohol or something in his system perhaps?

Preferably with a gas blowtorch applied to the soles of his feet.

From the very top down, too many morally bankrupt people in Thailand.

This is what happens when national leadership publicly claims, "They're not my watches."
