A village in Ang Thong in central Thailand is in grief after two children, a boy and a girl aged 6 and 5, died in an abandoned taxi.

They were playing together. They managed to get in but couldn't get out.

Their screams could not be heard and police believe they both suffocated in the hot sun of the day.

Saowanee the mother of the six year old said that she often took him to work with her but today he asked to stay at home and play with his friend, a relative.

She was shocked when she received a call that the pair were missing.

The grandmother of the six year old said that her husband had given them money for sweets and they had gone out to play as normal. A shopkeeper confirmed they had been in to buy sweets.

At first she thought they may have drowned but that soon proved not to be the case.

They were found by another man who heard an announcement about the missing children over a loudspeaker.

Both were dead on the back seat of the cab. He took the girl out and laid her on the ground but she had already died. So had the boy.

The owner of the cab said he had left it there for 3 years. He wasn't normally there and never saw children playing in it.

Police think the children were playing and entered the taxi by the driver's door but after finding they couldn't get out by the other three doors they died from suffocation in the hot sun.

So much in modern cars depend on electricity, door locks, windows etc, once the battery is flat nothing works. In an older model they could have wound down a window.

All cars can be opened from the inside, battery flat or not.

But a 5 or 6 year old probably wouldn't' know how to especially if they had locked the door/s while playing.

IF the person knows what they are doing, possibly not the case with children of that age 😞

Like not letting a 5 and 6 year old go out to play anywhere they want to unaccompanied?

Yeah.

Exactly two needless deaths through negligence.

RiP little ones.

So he had abandoned the car for 3 years, wasn't normally there........and never saw children playing in it. What an excuse!

very tragic and sad event. They entered from the drivers door so it wasn't locked i expect. Could have exited the same way. If only someone had off walked past ....

heart wrenching sad news.

RIP kids.
