Popular Post snoop1130
State of emergency set to be extended through July By The Nation The committee on lockdown easing will ask the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) to extend the state of emergency until the end of July, National Security Council secretary-general Gen Somsak Rungsita said today. Speaking after meeting with the committee, Gen Somsak said members had agreed to extend the state of emergency for another month to prevent a second wave of contagion after schools reopen next week. "In the fifth phase of lockdown easing, the government will allow venues that have high risk of infection to reopen, so we believe the state of emergency is needed to contain the spread of Covid-19," he said. "We will propose this issue to the CCSA on Monday (June 29) and to the Cabinet on Tuesday (June 30)." He said the move was not related to politics, adding that the state of emergency can be ended at any time if the situation returns to normal. Critics have accused the government of using the emergency decree – which bans large gatherings and gives officials legal immunity over human rights violations – to suppress free speech. "So far, the government has prioritised protecting children and the elderly, so this move is aimed to ensure the safety of children and parents after the new semester opens," he said. "The important thing is to contain the spread of the virus effectively and conduct as many Covid-19 tests as possible." Popular Post silver sea
The key sentence seems to be: “General Somsak said that members had agreed to extend the state of emergency for another month to prevent a second wave of contagion after schools reopen next week.” None of us really knows what the virus will do next. We have been very lucky so far in Thailand, when compared with what has happened in other countries. I would be inclined to give the government the benefit of the doubt. Control, control and more control ! Exactly! Just wondering why Thailand's leaders need so much more control (it would appear) than Vietnam's Communist leaders? It sure looks like there's more freedom in Vietnam these days! Apparently when they re-opened the schools in May, they did the temperature check and hand sanitizer for just a week and have since stopped! Masks are officially still compulsory, but no idea if they're still being enforced! 12

webfact
NSC: One-month extension of emergency decree is necessary BANGKOK(NNT) - The National Security Council (NSC) insists that the emergency decree has to remain in force for another month, as the country may see a resurgence in COVID-19 cases in this perilous time. The NSC Secretary-General, Gen. Somsak Rungsita, said today that an NSC meeting had approved a one-month extension of the emergency decree because the fifth phase of lockdown easing will affect venues, which are at high risk of COVID-19 transmissions. The meeting expressed concern for the elderly and children. With many schools set to reopen in July, gatherings of students and their guardians are expected. If the decree is lifted, it will be difficult for the authorities to effectively implement disease control measures and screen people entering the country. The extension is not related to political issues, and will not affect people’s way of life. Gen. Somsak said the extension will help build confidence, with more activities and businesses set to resume after the next phase of eased restrictions. The global situation has not completely improved. The lifting of the emergency decree can be proposed any time, but if another wave is imminent, more stringent measures will be taken. Live sporting events can only be broadcast at this time. The security official said the travel bubble plan can’t happen yet, but entrepreneurs, who plan to visit Thailand, must consider if their business activities can actually stimulate the economy. They have to undergo a health check-up before entering the country. There are limits on the types of businesses and the number of entrepreneurs, and the authorities must be able to locate them at all times when they are in Thailand. The NSC meeting’s resolutions will be submitted to the cabinet and the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) for consideration next Monday (June 29), before the decree’s extension is declared the following day. Therefore, as you 'know' about Thai politics, please enlighten us mere mortals about all the world governments' policies regarding Covid 19? Personally, I have no love for autocratic governments, but in this case, this decision seems reasonable. My daughter returns to school on Wednesday. her school has done a fantastic job of interpreting the 'social distancing' rules from the government, but nobody can guarantee the safety of the hundreds of thousands of students across Thailand, all returning en-bloc to school just as Thailand settles uneasily back into a 'routine' way of life. I think this is a perfectly sensible idea. Let's wait and see. No doubt the conspiracy theorists will have, or need, something to blether about...... 1 2 3

Popular Post Hayduke
13 hours ago, snoop1130 said: State of emergency set to be extended It’s really quite simple for the Forces of Darkness. Next month they can agree to rescind the “Emergency”….but at the same time insist that the key features of the “Emergency” are vital to the safety of the country. So technically, even if the “Emergency” is 'lifted'….all the means of control and repression associated with the “Emergency” will remain in place. Will they voluntarily give up the opportunity to increase their control? Not likely. Control to a power-obsessed, autocratic government is like drink to the alcoholic. There's never enough....and it's always going to want more....and more....and more... So…for all intents and purposes, the “Emergency” is here to stay. Remember boys and girls...it’s all necessary to preserve the prosperity and well-being of the Thai generals...er...people.
