All borders are closed. International flights banned. The island was only opened up two weeks ago. What do you expect? Whoosh, Patong is back to being the Pattaya of the South. It will come back but like Pattaya will not be the same. Perhaps a bummer to guys like you. Went to Jungceylong yesterday, only a handful of cars on Thanon leading to the front of the mall. Just one other customer in Fuji, couldn't have been more than a hundred people in the whole mall, it was a bit eerie. zzzzz Posted June 28, 2020 Share Posted June 28, 2020 went in today, figured rain ... but dam it was dead, worse than last week, more than 50% of the restaurants on the food alley are closed, didn't see anybody in any shops and Big C had a dozen at most. Hotels have been allowed to open since mid june but open for who? With no tourists flights, a hotel would be foolish to open now Did see bangla road seems open for walking, but cant see, (as for hotels) anyone opening any time soon. samsensam Posted June 28, 2020 Share Posted June 28, 2020 OP, not sure what your point is, unless you've been living in a cave for the last 3/4 months. there is a global pandemic, tourism around the world has pretty much ground to a halt (beginning to open up in some european countries), thailand has closed it's borders to tourists, patong is primarily a tourist destination, why then do you suppose the place is quiet? answers on a postcard... Can one of you clever guys tell me how this helps the spread of virus by not drinking beer from the bottle and have it poured into a dirty glass ...? I can't figure it out...???? Some hotels were already open for more than a month, but many more are reopening July 1. Lots of Thailand residents are traveling around and holidaying in-country. Many Kamala bars/restaurants have reopened for the last couple of weeks. Locals have been out and about. Probably a good time for 4 & 5 star hotels to bring back staff, re-stock, and restart to get the business ready for some international borders/flights reopening in August or Sept. Stick to Nanai Rd and you have some life. Or go to Rawai / Naiharn which is decent, under the crappy circumstances. The private jets and 1000 arrivals per day will soon change the whole picture. Sure not. Yep, Nanai, where the locals live, is bustling. Closer to the ocean in the tourist areas, it's a ghost town, but a handful more people than a week ago, seems to me. Business will change hands and things will be different for awhile. But once the virus is under control and the tourist can come and go as before. The bars will open and the girls will return. My guess 2 to 3 years if things improve with the virus and free travel. Phuket is one of those places that the young people love,bars,weekend girlfriends,beaches and the freedom to do the stuff you can’t in your home country. The only thing I hope the Thai government don’t do is allow tourists in too early without proper screening. They need to protect the the Thai people first. The massage parlors are open and there are plenty of out of work working girls. I don’t think it will ever be this quiet and peaceful on Phuket and it really a joy to experience. Apologies if you read it elsewhere already.... There is allot of negativity on this thread picking on Phuket during this china flu bug season. Please keep in mind, EVERYWHERE in the world that still has a lockdown is suffering bigly. Not just Phuket. ANYWHERE In the world that is tourism reliant has been hit especially hard. Things will bounce back to normal in Phuket and elsewhere faster than you would imagine once the lockdowns are lifted. In addition, there is a fast-growing realization and consensus globally that the kungflu is really just a nasty flu season, and not worthy of any general lockdown. Many are calling the whole China flu hysteria a hoax, and just a power grab. At most, this nasty flu is worthy of special precautions for the elderly 70+ and those with certain co-morbidities. Unfortunately and obviously, those specific folks need to be locked-down or only venture outside to the reopened world at their own risk, until an effective treatment or vaccine is found. Indeed, Thailands perceived (current) success at keeping the (tested) virus levels low is actually a huge draw for even more tourists to come once the lockdowns end. It sucks if your income has been severely impacted by the lockdowns, but those who can hang-on for a little while longer will see the light at the end of the tunnel. There will be new businesses opening where old ones went under.
