Lol - open for July 1, 2, 3. Close at midnite on the 3rd (Friday), reopen on Monday afternoon.

What the heck is so religious to warrant 2 dry days just asked the Mrs (thai but not necessarily overly Buddhist) she has not got any idea either

I am Belgian, and the majority of us consider only Belgian beers the name of beer worthy.

The other beers are considered as "alcoholic drink", and many alcoholic drinks are drank with ice or/and a straw.

So I drink Belgian beers without ice, and the others with.

I don't consider myself as a biker or pooftas, but as a connoisseur.

I’m not Belgian and I 100% agree with you !

Thailand to re-open bars and allow in some foreign travellers

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand will allow pubs and bars to re-open on Wednesday and plans to let in some foreign travellers after recording five weeks without any community transmission of the coronavirus, a government official said.

Pubs, bars and karaoke venues will be able to operate until midnight as long as they follow safety guidelines such as ensuring two metre (6.6 ft) spaces between tables.

"Alcohol consumption could reduce discipline so there will be close monitoring before customers enter venues," Taweesin Wisanuyothin, a spokesman for the government’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration, told a briefing on Monday.

Foreigners with work permits, residency and families in Thailand will also be able to enter the country, but will be subject to a 14-day quarantine.

Taweesin said foreigners seeking certain types of medical treatment such as some cosmetic surgery or fertility treatment could also be allowed into the country.

Business visitors from Japan, South Korea, Singapore, China and Hong Kong could also be exempted from a two-week quarantine period under a fast track entry if they have certificates to show they were free from COVID-19 and were tested upon arrival.

The country's aviation regulator has banned international flights since April.

"There is no proposal to change the flight suspension and travellers can return with repatriation flights and special flights," he said.

The government's coronavirus task force will recommend the extension of the emergency decree until the end of July for cabinet's approval on Tuesday.

The coronavirus has killed 58 people in Thailand, among 3,169 infections, while 3,053 patients have recovered.

But the country has gone 35 days without community transmission and new cases have been among Thais returning from abroad and detected during quarantine.

my favourite place would have to buy up the premises either side to enforce some of those stupid 22 rules.

And the majority of the customers only drink out of bottles. We are bikers, not pooftas who like a straw or ice in their beer.

Ha.

I'm a real biker and use the same glass every day and never wash it.

People will spend a lot of money in July, entertainment is back.

Well it won't 're the Thais as many have had  no income since lockdon. My Thai friend doesn't even get the 5000 Baht government money. His wife the same.

So the government is going to track everyone that goes for a massage via its app?

Are they going to delete that data after 1 month?

There will be a big black market in anonymous SIM cards if the government tries to track everyone in their social activities.

Why do you need the bars so much? I have been living here for very long and the only people I saw hanging around at bars were those that were not able to find any other sources of entertainment. Poor people in my eyes.

Its called socialising.

We've been over this before. There are a lot of people who, despite supposedly spending 65,000 baht a month (lol) are living in little studio (Thai style) rooms with maybe a crappy fridge and TV (and probably a puke-stained, <deleted>-smelling mattress).
Cable TV and "aircon" are "luxuries" that cut down on the amount of beer than can be bought with each pension cheque (or what's left of one after paying off 2-3 "ex's").

Going out to a local bar for a beer is the highlight of their (day/week). Seriously. I've seen people just like that. Back when I was living in South Pattaya. People living from whatever money they can scrounge from friends/relatives. Living in a tiny room with no aircon or fridge even.

The first apartment I rented in South Pattaya was like that. The guy before me ran out of people he could mooch money from and developed liver problems. Supposedly family and friends scrapped enough money to get him back to the UK so he could get back on the NHS.

When I went to move in, the first thing I did was throw the mattress in the trash and then clean the place (it stank). I went out and bought a new mattress, nice TV, aircon unit and a good fridge (very good as it turned out - still using it 16 years later and never a problem with it) ! The microwave actually died just 2 weeks ago so it was pretty good as well. (Still have the TV but it isn't used much and just sits in the bedroom these days.)

(I was renting the apartment because it was better than renting hotel rooms every trip and having to carry the same stuff (clothing for example) back and forth each time. It was 30,000 a year for rent and when I was there I had a better TV and fridge than most hotel rooms, as well as a hot plate, microwave and other gadgets.)

The local dive usually has aircon and probably cable sports channels to watch "footie" on.
As well as maybe the chance to flirt with something other than your "other" hand.

And if you've been around long enough, you know what the term "balloon chaser" means. Once the bars are open, there's the chance people will be celebrating birthdays and other events again (quietly of course) and where there's balloons, there's usually free food and maybe some free drinks (in some places, ringing the bell still buys everyone a round, including customers).
It's almost like Christmas - especially for those who may be fibbing a wee bit about how much they are actually getting by on over here.

No bars means making a trip to the local shop for a beer and then sitting on the steps or going back to your room to drink it.

Alone.

Pattaya Tree market was busy and getting busyer every day and i saw some people on youtube complaining that they have to open up all the pubs and bars again because Tree market was getting overcrowded , but do they really think if they open up all the bars and pubs and clubs that there are enough people to fill them all ?? Specially with all the rules(that for sure are going to be broken) .

The CCSA reportedly extended the state of emergency to aid the fifth-phase easing and the reopening of schools and colleges on July 1.

Businesses set to be reopened on July 1 include pubs, bars and entertainment venues.

Makes sense, now all the shouting and screaming can end, kids back to school, bars open for those that wish to use them and those that can't turn a profit bye bye...

The only way they will get routinely checked for covid is by flying in from another country or going across the border to Burma as domestic testing is not part of the current policy, the results would spoil the charade of virus free Thailand.

You can't go over the border to Burma until the 31st July
