Bars, pubs allowed to reopen, state of emergency extended until end of July

Why do you need the bars so much? I have been living here for very long and the only people I saw hanging around at bars were those that were not able to find any other sources of entertainment. Poor people in my eyes.

Its called socialising.

We've been over this before. There are a lot of people who, despite supposedly spending 65,000 baht a month (lol) are living in little studio (Thai style) rooms with maybe a crappy fridge and TV (and probably a puke-stained, <deleted>-smelling mattress).
Cable TV and "aircon" are "luxuries" that cut down on the amount of beer than can be bought with each pension cheque (or what's left of one after paying off 2-3 "ex's").

Going out to a local bar for a beer is the highlight of their (day/week). Seriously. I've seen people just like that. Back when I was living in South Pattaya. People living from whatever money they can scrounge from friends/relatives. Living in a tiny room with no aircon or fridge even.

The first apartment I rented in South Pattaya was like that. The guy before me ran out of people he could mooch money from and developed liver problems. Supposedly family and friends scrapped enough money to get him back to the UK so he could get back on the NHS.

When I went to move in, the first thing I did was throw the mattress in the trash and then clean the place (it stank). I went out and bought a new mattress, nice TV, aircon unit and a good fridge (very good as it turned out - still using it 16 years later and never a problem with it) ! The microwave actually died just 2 weeks ago so it was pretty good as well. (Still have the TV but it isn't used much and just sits in the bedroom these days.)

(I was renting the apartment because it was better than renting hotel rooms every trip and having to carry the same stuff (clothing for example) back and forth each time. It was 30,000 a year for rent and when I was there I had a better TV and fridge than most hotel rooms, as well as a hot plate, microwave and other gadgets.)

The local dive usually has aircon and probably cable sports channels to watch "footie" on.
As well as maybe the chance to flirt with something other than your "other" hand.

And if you've been around long enough, you know what the term "balloon chaser" means. Once the bars are open, there's the chance people will be celebrating birthdays and other events again (quietly of course) and where there's balloons, there's usually free food and maybe some free drinks (in some places, ringing the bell still buys everyone a round, including customers).
It's almost like Christmas - especially for those who may be fibbing a wee bit about how much they are actually getting by on over here.

No bars means making a trip to the local shop for a beer and then sitting on the steps or going back to your room to drink it.

Alone.

The thousands of farangs stuck here, and the thousands of expats on 1 year visas/ extensions.

Most of these have seen their monthly pensions worth even less over the last 3 months.

Please tell me this does not include flights out of this country.  At this point I would fly almost anywhere to get out of this country (OK not the USA, UK or Brazil).

China???

Pattaya Tree market was busy and getting busyer every day and i saw some people on youtube complaining that they have to open up all the pubs and bars again because Tree market was getting overcrowded , but do they really think if they open up all the bars and pubs and clubs that there are enough people to fill them all ?? Specially with all the rules(that for sure are going to be broken) .

The CCSA reportedly extended the state of emergency to aid the fifth-phase easing and the reopening of schools and colleges on July 1.

Businesses set to be reopened on July 1 include pubs, bars and entertainment venues.

Makes sense, now all the shouting and screaming can end, kids back to school, bars open for those that wish to use them and those that can't turn a profit bye bye...

The only way they will get routinely checked for covid is by flying in from another country or going across the border to Burma as domestic testing is not part of the current policy, the results would spoil the charade of virus free Thailand.

You can't go over the border to Burma until the 31st July
