Trump posts video of couple brandishing guns towards protesters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump, again accentuating racial tensions in America, on Monday posted a video showing a Missouri couple brandishing guns towards protesters who were calling for police reforms.

 

Without comment, Trump retweeted an ABC News video showing a white couple responding to Black and white protesters marching past their St. Louis mansion. In the video and others on social media, some protesters can be seen pausing to film or photograph the couple, while others can be heard to shout, "Keep moving!" and "Let's go!"

 

Mark McCloskey, 63, who lives in the mansion with his wife, Patricia McCloskey, said they feared for their lives and that protesters damaged a wrought-iron gate at an entrance to the wealthy neighborhood. Both are personal-injury lawyers.

 

"This is all private property," he said in an interview with KMOV4 local news. "There are no public sidewalks or public streets. I was terrified that we'd be murdered within seconds, our house would be burned down, our pets would be killed. We were all alone facing an angry mob."

Kimberly Gardner, the city's chief prosecutor, said she was alarmed by the videos and that her office was investigating.

 

"We must protect the right to peacefully protest, and any attempt to chill it through intimidation or threat of deadly force will not be tolerated," she said in a statement.

 

The protesters had been heading to the home of St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson to demand her resignation after she read out the names and addresses of people calling for police reform in a Facebook Live event last week. Krewson apologized and took the video down.

 

On Sunday, Trump drew swift condemnation for retweeting video of a Florida supporter shouting "white power," a phrase used by white supremacist groups, and later deleted it. The White House said Trump had not heard the slogan.

 

Trump also blasted Princeton University's weekend announcement that it was removing former U.S. President Woodrow Wilson's name from its schools over his racist remarks and policies.

 

"Incredible stupidity!" Trump tweeted.

 

Opinion polls show the Republican Trump trailing his likely Democratic rival in the Nov. 3 election, former Vice President Joe Biden, and an increasing number of Americans sympathizing with protesters and support policing reforms.

 

The Princeton decision is part of a sweeping reassessment of historical icons and monikers amid growing calls for racial justice following the killing of Black Americans, including George Floyd, whose death under the knee of a white police officer roused world protests.

 

Critics have highlighted Trump's hostile response to protests against racial injustice and actions like Princeton's, even as Mississippi on Sunday voted to remove the Confederate flag symbol from its state flag, Walmart stopped selling the Confederate flag, and NASCAR banned the Civil War-era symbol.

These people were not rioting, or looting or burning, it was a peaceful protest.

If worried wait inside and have your escape/defense ready, not become confrontational out front and risk stirring people up.

Yeah um the group of 'protesters' entered a closed gate, marched by several no trespassing signs, and onto these property owners driveway, and this is after WEEKS of violent riots and angry mobs which caused untold amounts of property damage so its a little difficult to find any fault with these people. 

 

They are lawyers as well. 

 

Id do the exact same thing, guns and force being the only thing groups like this understand.

Why is it that sso many Trump acolytes cannot differentiate between legitimate protest - enshrined in the US Constitution - and lawbreakers?

 

Yes there are looters and rioters jumping on the back of the protests.  But if there were no protests, there would be nothing for them to jump on the back of.  There is a huge groundswell that - finally - America should tackle the systemic racism inhernet in many areas.  But the Racist inthe WShote House, rather than leading ALL Americans, continues to pander to his base and stoke the flames of racial tension.  He SHOULD be the President for ALL Americans, but fails miserably, as he does on many things.

Last sentence is interesting and applies to the 'protesters' not the homeowners.

If true, then:

 

1.  I have not seen any pcitures of protestors with guns.  Have you?

2.  If they had guns, then I would suggest that storming out front with your own weapon is a pretty stupid response.  It's the sort of thing that soldiers did in World War One when confronted by machine guns - that didn;t turn out too well.

Those 'protesters' are lucky the homeowners didn't shoot them, Missouri is a castle doctrine state and homeowners can use deadly force on trespassers, and rightly so. 

 

Maybe you have a weak constitution and would rather cower under your bed, but Id defend my home to the death if necessary before cowering to a mob of trespassers.

The protesters went on to the mayors house down the private street and destroyed fencing around the mayors home and went all the way up to the front door shouting for resignation and to take the police with her, also painted and vandalized around the property before leaving.

They had no right to be in a gated community and have only been peaceful until they start burning and looting. That couple bought a run down mansion in 1988 and spent millions renovating it, they have every right to protect it from so called demonstrators.

Defence against what, a few bottles and cans, police have riot shields and batons. We don't shoot protesters in the UK. BLM and Antifa are not classed as terrorists anywhere.
