And where are the tourists? They are not allowed to enter ! Pretty useless i would say.

Not only that, many of us cannot even leave our country even if we wanted to visit.

I'm seriously worried the ministry may not have thought this through enough. Thailand is basically on lockdown until 31st July and at best allowing in 200 a day. No foreign tourist  in their right mind is going to book a holiday to thailand for the start of August when it's shut to 31st July could (and will) be extended

We are not on lockdown. You are free to move about 24 hours a day.

the borders are closed and maybe also several peoples minds.

Glad I am heading from Bangkok to Cape Panwa in Phuket next week for a 10 day stay with the GF at a nice private 5 star resort that is all inclusive and we never need to leave the property.  Last time we went it was very nice and even though it was last high season there were very few tourists.

exactly, domestic tourism is the only tourism for now and the foreseeable future.  Makes for some nice trips now that we can fly into Phuket from Bangkok.  Prices are also great right now as the high end resorts are struggling.

Just came back from Koh Tao and Samui what are they talking about ?

International Tourists from the Travel Bubbles is what they are thinking and those are the places that will be opened for them.  Domestic Travel is the only way to travel to the islands now.

If the lockdown is to July 31st where it could be extended to include August, how and why would a tourist book an international air flight under such uncertainty?

they might open but foreign tourists don’t operate on a no planning schedule....and school begins in late August/Sept so young families can be crossed off the list...

Especially as the airline won't want to hand your money back.

You'd have to be mad to book.

Would also point out August is Monsoon, Thais don't go to beaches in monsoon.

Went with a gf years back in August, just her and me in the island resort (Koh Libong).

I have booked a family holiday to Phuket beleiving it Covid free. Now because the goverment who have played it so safe are bending to big business who in their right mind will go where incoming tourist from whereever may be starting a new outbreak, no testing , no quarantine....American Express will do nicely thank you.. Will the import outweigh the Thai tourists?

So sad that thios was not thought through

“To start with, we will limit the number of tourists depending on each area’s capability to effectively screen visitors for Covid-19,” he said.

So you want to limit the numbers travelling to the final destination... but what about before that, including limiting inbound flight/passenger numbers.

Can't be done.

Will this include Americans?  At the rate they are going they will be testing herd immunity by August!

Not likely. If current estimates of people who have had the virus at ten times known cases is correct that is still only 6% of the population. Still another 54% to get to herd immunity. Some areas might get there quicker then it will just move on to other areas. Its pretty much a runaway train in the USA now. Who knows what the final destination will be.

As usual just stupid. No tourist wants to be confined to a single island, they'll just vacation elsewhere. Open the entire country, allow only people coming from low transmission countries, and require a negative test result. It's really that simple. If you want to be paranoid require a negative test result a week before the flight, then re-test on entry. Or test on entry and quarantine for a couple of days and retest. 14-day quarantine is complete overkill and unnecessary as 99% of people who are sick will develop symptoms within days.

And even safer: people who have positive antibodies tests, i.e. they are immune, well.. it's a no brainer. Just let them in.

Thank you. Please open up. Forget the nonsense of having people in quarantine. We the business owners are suffering. Cost of visa, Accounting, Social fees, Insurance, rent and etc.....

This country needs theorist. Simply face it.

Well that's five places off my list.

You need to go there now. Today I spoke to a friend in Samui who has a beachfront resort and he said it is just like it was 25 years ago when he bought it. Beach all to himself, no tourists.

Good, get a plane load of overseas tourists on your island then quarantine it.  Zero domestic tourists & nobody leaves.  Good luck with that ????

Yes, world pandemic, hundreds of thousands of people dying, families on the brink of starvation,,, but the beach is empty, how lovely.

Some people just live in their own little bubble.

Key point that, Thailand don't ever seem to mention the inability for people to be going on a holiday right now. Tourism recovering is not all about Thailand opening it's borders, there will be nobody to go there for a long time yet.
