Video: Whale sharks freed from nets out at sea off Krabi

A video posted on Facebook by ReReef showed the efforts of fishermen to free three whale sharks that had got entangled in a net on the side of a fishing vessel.

Sanook's report suggested that fishermen were seeing  whale sharks almost every night in the area.

Data was being provided so the creatures' movements could be mapped.

This incident occurred seven nautical miles to the east of Koh Rok off the Krabi coast in southern Thailand.

Fishermen had to be careful not to harm the majestic creatures but were ultimately successful in what was a difficult operation, said Sanook.

Nice to see that they cared about the sharks and didn't just kill them.

Well, It's a protected species and they made sure to film the rescue !?!,...I don't think they would film and post it if they did anything illegal !?!?

Happy these awesome creatures were saved, however these nets should be banned.

The rest of the discarded "bycatch" in these these nets is astounding and sad. Most

other species are not so fortunate. :post-4641-1156693976:
