Popular Post rooster59 Posted July 4, 2020 Popular Post Share Posted July 4, 2020 Alcohol ban in Thailand on Sunday and Monday Thailand’s Department of Disease Control has confirmed the nationwide alcohol ban on Sunday (5 July ) and Monday (6 July). The ban on the sale of alcohol is in place due to two Buddhist holidays: Asahna Bucha Day and the beginning of Buddhist Lent. The holidays fall on this weekend and as a result the Thai government has declared Monday as a national holiday. During the ban, no alcohol can be sold anywhere, including in bars, restaurants and hotels or at supermarkets or convenience stores. Anyone caught ignoring the alcohol ban faces a fine or up to 10,000 baht, 6 months in prison or both. The ban comes just days after Thailand lifted restrictions on bars and restaurants serving alcohol, which had originally been put in place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. I gave up to argue against the "4th/5th" error. Every proper calendar shows holidays on 5 and 6. Be prepared for crowds at the liquor stores/departments today. Avoid it! Just as you can have a drink again after 3 months prohibitions, they close alcohol sales again. and I believe there will be 2 or 3 more alcohol free days again later this month. Sad enough to walk around and see the bars empty with no customers at all. natway09 Posted July 4, 2020 Share Posted July 4, 2020 The 27th being the holiday in leiu of Songkran will give the Thais a 4 day holiday ie: 25/28th. These days are not alcohol free days so bars will be open as normal. From a google search for "Asanha Bucha" I've seen all sorts reported about this weekend. The WikiPedia article reports it as being on the 5th. As far as I was concerned Asanha Bucha is today as reported by google and others and the actual work day off is carried forward to Monday and the Lent day is Sunday with its day off carried forward to Tuesday on account of them falling on the weekend.
