Popular Post RickNew
Hi, I’ve been living in Thailand 6 years now and have visited most areas from Chiang Mai, Issan to Yala. About 30 days ago I took up temporary residence here in Koh Samui, I’m enjoy the beaches and peacefulness very much. But.....I have come across an unusually high number of “angry expats” here on Samui. They seem very quick to loose their tempers and engage in a shouting matches over very trivial matters. Has the Covid situation caused more stress in the expat community or is this normal behavior for expats on Samui? Or maybe I’ve just had a bit of bad luck these last 30 days? Please don’t misunderstand me, I love Thailand and am enjoying my stay on Samui and I’m not complaining, but I’m curious if anyone else has noticed this, or is it just me? Thanks 1 1 1

Popular Post Samui Bodoh
It is either you or bad luck. I haven't seen an angry expat in (literally) years; not one. Why would one get angry in paradise? As for me, I am so cool that you could store a side of beef in my vicinity. Off to the beach... Popular Post OneeyedJohn
Honestly, you have to wonder how some people have the intelligence to even get to Thailand, let alone how to live here. I have to stop reading this junk. 1 3 2 1

Popular Post phetphet
What makes you think they are Samui expats? Maybe they are just foreigners waiting out the COVID outbreak in Thailand. Like you, they may be just escaping other parts of Thailand for a break. Nothing for expats to get stressed or angry over in Samui at the moment. Best it's been for years. Even the bars are open for those that miss them. The Thai's themselves? That's a different matter with the loss of jobs and businesses. Edited July 5, 2020 by phetphet 3
Popular Post robertson468
I believe it is the company you decide to be in that dictates how much you enjoy, or not enjoy a location. If I come across less hospitabe people, I just avoid them.........life is just too short. I have lived on Samui now for nearly 16 years and for me, this is where I will probably turn up my toes? Lots of very lovely Foreign and Thai Friends and if they are not around, I have four very friendly dogs to keep me happy! Keep enjoying this paradise Island and perhaps become a little more careful in who you socialise with? 8
Guderian
Don't denigrate your fellow expats, they're probably just angry at the way the government has neglected the poor people of Thailand during the lockdown, and trying to organise a free food handout to help. 2

stephenterry
OP, if I was you, I'd take the Don Sak ferry back across to the mainland and cop a lift to Khanom, a veritable paradise, and very few expats to upset you. Popular Post parallaxtech
I've lived in Samui for sixteen years and probably know two expats that I don't mind spending ten minutes with in a conversation. Having met and worked with some wonderful people in over thirty countries, for some reason, I've seen some pretty miserable characters here. I don't drink or chase skirts so bars are out. I feel that it's best to know people who share a love for the same sport or hobby. I have played tennis with some great people over the years, but they have all returned home. I am happy now just enjoying my life with a girlfriend and two dogs. Remember, it's not the quantity but the quality of your friends. Popular Post crazykopite
There are many tourists stuck on the islands due to the virus how do you come to the conclusion that it’s ex pats who are the angry ones I’m an expat living on the islands since 2006 I only go out when I have to otherwise I am at home making myself useful or lounging about in my swimming pool enjoying the peace and tranquility .

Popular Post Dustdevil
I "loose" my temper internally when I see online that hardly anyone knows how to spell a simple four-letter word like LOSE. We LOSE our keys; we don't "loose" them. Lose a button on your shirt and your collar is loose. Edited July 5, 2020 by Dustdevil 2
OneeyedJohn
^^^ There's no excuse for it, I get angry as hell, and even worse when I see bad grammar, having as I do an 'O' Level in English. I also have an 'O' Level in Mathematics, but I can save that for another thread????. Edited July 5, 2020 by OneeyedJohn
Max69xl
Are they expats or just stranded tourists? If stranded, I might understand why they get angry once in a while.

ronaldo0
Rock fever ! Loads of them moan about things and rant yet never leave the place to go somewhere else for a few days break off the island ! You seen the movie the shining ? Same result ???? As for saying it’s people stuck there due to COVID , could have left any time in last few months if they wanted. Ferries didn’t stop and flights out of the country every week !
Tchooptip
The Samui forum is probably not one of the most frequented, by cons personally I find it well attended with some members always ready to inform/help us when they can, so if it was a way to have an opinion of expats of Samui mine would be very good ☺️
