Popular Post OneMoreFarang
On the 1st July I visited Nana. I thought on the first night lots of people would go there. I was wrong. Few or very few customers in the few bars which were open but mostly it was dark. Little neon light, no laughing girls outside, the word depressing comes to my mind. Yesterday I had another try because some other bars were supposed to open. The normally best bars still didn't open. Now the next opening date for them is supposed to be the 15th. Let's see. And the other places which were not open on the 1st were mostly empty. In one big bar I could see about 5 customers, in another bar with about 50 girls staff we were the only guests. The only place which was doing alright was a little bar which feels already crowded with 10 customers. I don't think the new rules are "the problem" because in most bars the girls run around as usual and mingled with the few customers as usual. Even smoking was "allowed". According to a friend who visited Soi Cowboy on a couple of nights it's not better over there. And the girls? I know from one of the girls that officially she will get 15k for a month dancing. But if she doesn't have enough drinks and ... then that will be cut from her salary. I know that is usual but now the conditions about the drinks, etc. are even worse than a few months ago. With the current amount of customers it's impossible for the girls to get as many drinks as they should and that will be deducted from their salaries. There will be a lot of very disappointed girls at the end of the month. When it stays like now then I am pretty sure that probably 90% of the bars will not brake even. And many bar owners will have to pay a lot of money for option A a running bar with few customers or B a closed bar which still cost rent, etc. Bad times, really bad times! Somehow I wouldn't be surprised if most bars won't survive this crisis. What is your opinion? P.S.: I didn't name any bar because I don't want to expose who does not follow official rules, etc. 7
Boomer6969
In Bangkok we might see bars opening only Friday and Saturday, there are simply not enough customers to operate on week days. I can only admire Thai people for their optimism, as there is a great deal of renovation work going on. Guess that some people sit on a pile of cash and can plan for when a vaccine to come up. But they might have some staff problems then.
Popular Post Lacessit
No farangs = no customers. The businesses patronized by Thais will survive. I suppose that means the massage shops/brothels. 10

However, it depends on what proportion of customers are resident farangs, and how many are tourists. The bars that depend mostly on tourists IMO don't have a prayer. AFAIK the go-go bars in Chiang Mai are still closed. Farang tourism is way down.
Popular Post JonnyF
I think a lot will go under. No tourists for at least another 2 months. The expats that remain here will get bored of going as well if the atmosphere is no good and they are the only ones sat in the bar. A guy I work with went to Cowboy. He said most bars were shut and the ones that were open were dead. The big one at the East end of the soi (that rhymes with Maccara) was quite busy but that was it. I think most that go bust will open again probably with different owners once tourists come back, maybe in around 6 months. But there will be less of them and I think they will change a bit. 2

Britman should do his thing too and then the bars can stay open ???? 3
Popular Post Oldie
Why you care? They are there for their own purpose. There will be always sex online available and booze at the next convenience store. If people are so desperate to get their booze and sex - if Thailand wants to continue to attract them then they need to fix this problem. If not - why care. It is not a great feeling to live in one of the biggest open air brothels of the world... Was my fault... 3 4 2
Popular Post OneMoreFarang
This is a (sorry, bad quality) panorama picture of Nana on the 1st July about 21:00. On the first view it does not look too bad. But on second view the left and right corners are completely dark. All closed. And the 3rd floor is completely closed. Yesterday the two "smaller" bars in the 3rd floor were open - with very few customers. 2

The go go bars in Cowboy are too expensive for drinks, Baccara is 190 baht for a 330ml bottle, the best value is Dollhouse happy hour at 90 baht. Some good go go bars in Nana plaza, Butterfly, Billboard and Rainbow 4, 140 baht 330ml bottle. These places were busy before the close down, but without a regular flow of tourists will struggle too. I usually stay in BKK for 2 or 3 months per trip and 2 or 3 trips per year, not now 555. I only went to a go go bar with friends occasionally and the guys left in BKK I know never go to them. If you want a girl in BKK then it's online or maybe some street meat if desperate 555. 1000 baht bar fines and lady drinks is too much unless on a short holiday. 2

But I am afraid that if this situation gets out of control we hardly can imagine the consequences.
Popular Post balo
Thais always find a way to survive, so I wouldn't be too worried. When tourism gets back to normal new places will open up.

I care because when things are good I like the atmosphere. Why should I order something online when I see online old photoshopped product pictures which have little to do with the actual product? I prefer girls life and in color. How do they dance? Do they smile from time to time? Is it fun to share a few drinks with them? Sex is just a small part of that experience.

I dread to think how much a takeaway costs from one of these places. Thailand got its reputation for being cheap. I guess those days are well and truly dead and buried.
