Follow seven steps for a safe return to Thailand

At the daily briefing on the Covid-19 situation in Thailand on Thursday (July 9), Natapanu Nopakun, deputy director general of the Foreign Ministry’s Information Department, announced the steps Thais and foreigners under 11 groups need to follow before they are allowed entry into the country.

 

The steps are: 

 

1. Contact the Thai embassy or consulate in your country to book a seat on a repatriation flight;

 

2. Foreigners must book a room at an alternative state quarantine site, get a fit-to-fly health certificate as well as a Covid-19 test that is negative and has been taken no more than 72 hours before departure. Foreigners are also required to have insurance coverage of US$100,000 specifically for Covid-19. Thais, on the other hand, only need to provide a fit-to-fly certificate; 

 

3. All these documents must be submitted to the embassy or consulate to secure a seat on the flight; 

 

4. Follow preventive measures while awaiting departure; 

 

5. Upon arrival, foreigners will undergo health screening before they are transported to the alternative state quarantine site; 

 

6. On the third to fifth day of quarantine, individuals will undergo Covid-19 tests. If negative, a second test will be applied between the 11th and 13th day of quarantine to confirm the end of the virus’s incubation period; 

 

7. People can travel around Thailand, provided they notify health authorities of their whereabouts, strictly follow health instructions as well as download and use the ThaiChana platform for tracking. 

 

Meanwhile, foreign fathers who are not legally married to their children’s mother can return to Thailand provided their name is mentioned in the child’s birth certificate. However, foreigners with a partner in Thailand whom they are not legally married to will not be allowed to return. 

 

Natapanu said every Thai mission overseas will follow the government’s guidelines, but the arrangement of repatriation flights also depends on local regulations. 

 

He added that Thailand will now allow 600 stranded foreigners per day to take repatriation flights that are heading to their country to pick up stranded Thais. Foreigners seeking to return home must contact their embassy, submit required documents and wait to be allocated a seat, because some countries are still not allowing commercial flights.

I've seen the prices for the alternative state quarantine, but nothing at all about the price of a repatriation flight. I expect they're free for Thai nationals, but I can't really imagine Santa Prayut and Uncle Anutin being quite so generous to the sweating farangs. Does anyone know the cost?

Why would Thailand give a free flight to repatriate a foreigner to their home country?

 

I checked Qatar for a flight bangkok to Sydney, price was Bt.296,000.00 for a flight next week.

Agreed, COVID-19 has had an impact on all of us in some form & restrictions etc have been very hard but perhaps thats why theres only been 58 deaths & why so many TV members are alive, kicking & able to moan about it across many threads.

Proof will be in the numbers.  I am sure the immigration queues will be back to 1 hour wait in no time.

so interesting that Thais don't have to go through all the hoops except get a fit to fly paper...this must be one smart virus that can obviously pick and choose who it will infect and who not....obviously Thais returning home won't be affected..only farangs...Thais are bullet proof...

No Free flights for anyone, everyone has to paid both Thai Nationals and non-Thail nationals

If one fits the bill and wants to jump the queue and prepared to pay a Premium then away you go. 
 

For the rest of us prepared to sit it out and wait until they relax the rules it is just a matter of time. They are obviously gonna milk it and get as much cash as they can before they open the doors. Remember Elite Visa? There are always some willing to pay OTT because they think they are special. 
 

Johnson done the same in the U.K. until it got to the point it was clear the economy was number 1. Thailand will be the same, just a matter of time.

Of anyone who's applied and was allowed to enter so far.

Fully qualified according to the guidelines.

Or just represent a point of view that the reality (so far) is not as simple and clear cut as you make it to be.

Many are willing to pay and jump through the hoops without any complaining yet they are not allowed to enter.

With not much of information out there on when we can expect to be granted a right to return.

The flyers make it look like if you're a fully qualified applicant, then can just contact the embassy, submit all the documents and be granted an entrance within days.

So far it hasn't been the case.

Hopefully the situation will change soon.

Or maybe  they don't test enough and maybe if someone died because of covid 19 they don't know it or they don't tell it

You might say that. The timing of it all seems tricky. Get the fit-to-fly and Covid tests, get them to a consulate, wait for approval, then finally purchase a flight? All within three days? Do-able perhaps, reasonable, given the constraints. Best if you live next door to a Thai consulate. Nerve-racking if you're depending on couriers to move those documents around. I lived three hours from Chicago. The only way I would have attempted this would be to get a room near the consulate. Either way, you may be pouring money away. Desperate measures.

its delusional as per usual.thais are not not able to fly to uk and other destinations why?as these destinations dont ask thai people to do this type of thing,its called recipricocity,mutual respect and before you say ahh we have little covid,yes  little testing.testing is what we are all told is the proof of the pudding!no michelin stars im afraid.the economy here is going thru the floor,manufacturing and tourism are its most important components.it will maybe never recover but so long as the military budgets filled and the dead mans watches are bountiful its business as usual, for the peons,know you place get back in the woodpile,the rich get richer and the poor get the picture.this is the start of the end.we are heading into the wilderness in a few yrs a model society.modelled on china as they ll own it and the generals too.

The government is certainly going to be spending some serious money in this bold, decisive action to ensure happiness and reunification of the nation. Truly a task of monumental import

 

Embassy processing fees, repatriation flight, medical tests, documentation, more medical tests, more documentation, transportation and guide to quarantine location, medical consultation, more documentation, quarantine hotel, daily medical assessments, more documentation, quarantine completion medical exam, more documentation, quarantine hotel daily food costs, quarantine hotel services charges, quarantine hotel facility charges, quarantine completion certificate, miscellaneous government registration fees, medical taxes, tariffs,…. ete, etc, etc.

 

Heartfelt thanks and deepest appreciation is due to all the selfless government agencies...who would never even consider accepting any thick, brown, cash-stuffed envelopes in performance of their sacred duty to protect the health and well-being of the Thai people.
