Popular Post Call
OK, blame the 58 dead at foreigners. Shut down the country, destroy the economy and ordinary peoples life for years to come. But what about the 25.000 dead in traffic yearly?

Bangkok and Phuket had way more than Chonburi and the overwhelming majority were not foreigners. Even in Chonburi, the amount of foreigners was a handful, yet here it is made out as if we alone were totally responsible. I remember that when many were calling for the borders to be closed, it was the government that kept them open long enough for the virus to get in. It is also the same government continuing to make things so difficult for businesses to operate, that so many of these people are still out of work, with no help coming from those in power. So it’s racism when people say things about us but not when we say nasty things about foreigners 2

Correct, the squatters are probably ex staff - caretakers. Once the bar owners and land lords go broke, the wealthy Chinese will be in like a shot of rice whiskey and turn them into gold shops, money exchanges and hotels with spa facilities. 3

Popular Post newnative
No, Pattaya was not 'badly hit' by the virus and did not have 'many cases'. What total garbage. There are less than 60 documented deaths in all of Thailand, for heaven sake. With 69 million people that's not even 1 death per million. Wouldn't America with 300 million people love to just have 300 deaths. 5

Yes - many bars are still closed although legally they could open (if they fulfilled the requirements!) However, apart from the expense of adapting to the requirements, what's the point if there are no customers? Hence, the numbers of unemployed, starving people. Popular Post Dumbastheycome
I simply congratulate the owners/lease holders in their tolerance for these people. It is more likely the "squatters" will have some respect for that opportunity rather than other locations where they force their way in and simply trash it.

I have been trying to find a new gardener for nearly 6 months now, tried a couple out but they want the money but not the work. I pay the going rate, plus provide free accommodation, free water and power. They are not hassled and I am flexible when it comes to their personal requirements for time off, In 17 years of employing people I have never had a complaint, so with all this unemployment where are the people wanting a job? Many Thais do not want to do manual types of work, such as Gardening. They consider the work to be for lowly people, and therefore do not want to be seen doing lowly work. This is the main reason the Government need to open up the Borders for Cambodian and Myanmar workers. When it comes to being Mr Nice Guy with the Thai workers, forget it, as an Inch given will be a Mile taken with them.

Popular Post mickyr55
This is the beginning of Pattaya becoming a huge and dangerous Ghetto with destitute and hungry occupying the many closed down premises that are probably years away from reopening. As for the brainless statement about foreigners bringing the epidemic, nobody but the Chinese brought Covid to the land of smiles and open cash registers.

I would have thought the person who owns The Beverage Company who owns Big C and produces Chang Beer would be putting pressure on the government as the lack of tourists must be affecting his sales ?
