Hunger strike launched at Govt House by pro-democracy group

Activists from the New Life Network (NLN) began a hunger strike in front of Government House on Monday to protest General Prayut Chan-o-cha’s extended stay in power.

 

 

NLN protesters Pumiwat Rangkasiwit and Siranya Thongchuea were joined by activist Somyot Pruksakasemsuk, who offered them moral support.

 

 

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and his accomplices had worsened the economy and widened the gap between rich and poor since coming to power in the 2014 coup, Pumiwat said.

 

 

The government should solve people’s economic problems during the virus crisis by issuing practical measures to help the unemployed, said the protesters.

 

They also demanded that the government be more responsive to people’s wishes and to public participation.

 

 

“You must listen to us or resign!” they said.

 

Their petition was received by the Prime Minister's Office’s vice minister, Suporn Atthawong, who invited the leaders to discuss their demands.

The government helps most when it gets out of the way.  The government actually makes matters worse in Thailand.  Had they not screwed around with tourism, kept the country open to foreign entrepreneurs, stopped helping the rich, enforced luny labor laws and allowed Thailand to be Thailand.  It would be better off.

I was agreeing with your sentiment, Steven. She should quit protesting asking for basic human rights and stuff, and go and get a job in sales or work in a market selling food. If she doesn’t, then maybe no 500 baht handouts in the future.

How can you be this person who is not in support of freedom. 

How can you not understand that difference is a blessing. 

And how can you be in support of someone who doesn't allow you to be you. 

If you really don't want to live your own life why you want to live under this under developed human being who doesn't even care about you. 

Maybe it's too many questions and the answer is only one thing lack off everything since birth and now need someone to lean too. 

I hope you will and can change your mind in the benefits off all the missing people and the rest living in thailand who in majority never wanted him.

A great development. Been saying this for a long time now. It is the activist youth, that are going to raise up this nation, from the current morass, and moral and ethical bankruptcy of the spectacularly toxic Thai army. 

 

The army will continue to do everything in it's power to suppress democracy and the will of the people. They are despised as never before, so they cannot afford to allow the people to speak. 

 

I believe the youth will oust them sooner, rather than later. The army are a hugely regressive force, and they are moving Thailand backwards, on countless levels.

Good on her for protesting.  But for international coverage she needs to be spraying lead about with an AK47 and sending loud protest letters with an RPG launcher.  And that from me the capitalist centre right leaning Aussie patriot that thinks governments world wide are failing their citizens and politicians need some real pain inflicted to get them on the right path.

This is a barely elected Government. They swindled their way into office and are despised by the vast majority of Thais and nearly all expats. 

 

They pay a high price? Utterly wrong. It is the good people of Thailand that are paying the high price.

How about criticizing/officially oppose whatever she likes?  Do she have the right to do that or could she be sent to jail or even killed/dissappeared because of it?

That is a very broad and ignorant generalisation. Sure many governments do heinous things, but some of them are decent and do actually care about their people. What is the alternative realistically speaking, show me an example of an entire country that exists in harmony and prospers without a government. The system works, you have clean and safe roads to drive down (not in Thailand though) you have government agencies that come and clean up your garbage, you have access to free medical care whenever you need it (again not in Thailand) and you have a police force that will come and help you if somebody is trying to break into your house. The list goes on.
