What can one say? Hoping against hope. World class? Lower luxury taxes if you want to attract the rich tourists you keep on talking about. They love to shop, and will not pay stupid prices.

Make some sacrifices. Show us you guys are serious, about something other than constant pontification.

Saying it is so, does not make it so. Harboring issusions does not change reality one iota.

They are day dreamers and have had cures for every disease that simply vanished

They have this pipedream that only "world class" elite tourists should come to Thailand, not the "dirty normies". That pool is quite limited and Thailand is not very high on their list of places to visit.

Wish I could get to Bora Bora and then return. Instead back to Phuket for another all inclusive week package at the Pullman resort at Cape Panwa. Flights on Bangkok Airways. Total cost for 8 days just ovet 40,000 baht. Cheap vacation from bangkok.

It is wishful thinking.

The TAT has to give some hope for the hotel and tourist business holders, that they don't give up quickly.

But when the end of the year nears there will be lots of bankruptcies in this sector, unavoidably.

There is no way foreign tourists returning to Thailand this year. The medical doctors consulting the Thai rulers have already blocked the travel bubble idea with Asian countries for another 6 months and when you follow their statements they clearly say no foreign tourists in Thailand before September 2021!!!, unless a successful cure or vaccine is found before.

And up to date, the Thai ruler always followed the advice of the medical doctors.

Sad, but true.

For the tourist business owners it means save yourself who can!

Yuthasak said that so many things in Thailand are world class and right up there is safety and health.

Oh come on, you're just yanking my chain with that one, now I've got to get up off the floor after falling off my chair laughing!

They forgot to include the fact that in a recent poll 95% of Thai people don't want foreign tourists. I guess that muddies the message.

Yep, and the "dirty farangs", the... expats are less prioritary than our monkeys and coconuts, immigration amnesty last minute..., the attitude of immigration, the amazing first place for road accident, the amazing ???? requirements to travel in (come enjoy our first class quarantine for 100K bahts), the not-so elite visa, etc.

TAT will just wait a few years, or forever, to have the normal business. Or some will have to wake up * and to really want tourism business to come back. Would be easy if they really wanted that, Thailand was like N°1 for 50 years, until Immigration starts to be awfull, and until the "shelter" approach to covid.

Can not have both ????

* : before too late, and before many other countries will take the market Thailand loses.

This announcement is hilarious. Feels good  (to read, not for Thai business nor travelers...).

Thaïs can be funny (i mean in a "normal" way image.png.1ba7bc399d284516b8afb3e96cba345c.png)

But yep surprising how they lose their sense of business, witch was pretty good)

seems like even you could not complete the sentence ......................

I like NS as an overnight pit stop.   Usually walk around the lake in the park .  ALl  small cities, or even towns,  should have a public park like that.

They should play to their strengths, not try to reinvent themselves as something they certainly are not.

Problem is, they don't like the image that their success has generated, hence the fun police are out and about.

And if something isn't fun, well then it is going to be a hard sell.

i see no issues with what they are trying to achieve.

Wishing they would cater to those who stay in small airBnb's, eating nothing but rice, spend their change on a few beers, is perhaps wishful thinking that they would ideally want that tourist back at this stage, when they are trying to keep the numbers under control.

Saw the new advert on Sky Sports on Sunday. A bit more stylish than the last campaign. Thai booking from 1 September daily then 2 daily from November. Thats what I call optimistic.

Heard about this advert on UK tv. Left me confused.

Just keep that Baht rising....only the very wealthy will come, right?  But they don't realize most wealthy people got that way by NOT spending money frivolously.

The obligatory Baht moan in every thread.
