The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) will propose to the Cabinet next week that the state of emergency be extended by a month from the end of this month, but there should be no prohibition on public gatherings, National Security Council’s secretary-general General Somsak Rungsita said on Wednesday (July 22).

He said it was necessary to extend the state of emergency to ensure people’s safety as the country is starting to ease restrictions on foreign arrivals. He said the emergency decree is just a tool to ensure people’s safety.

While the country is under emergency next month, the authorities will not be allowed to invoke Clause 9, which bans public gatherings or activities that might provoke unrest.

He added that political gatherings will be subject to other related laws.
