Phuket, Samui and Phi Phi could be first Thai destinations opened to foreign tourists

The government might have to re write the tourist immigration rules first .concerning, health insurance covering Covid or not, visa or no visa, visa on arrival or not, certificate to fly. Seeing how fast they work, that might take ages. Then, flights must once again become available . And who can enter ?

For years Thai's have not stopped complaining about something, for years it was about farang then it was about the Russians then the Indians and Arabs last but not least the Chinese I used to say to them when these people stop coming then what? cant even go back to sticky rice land now,

I get them asking when farang coming back, farang are not coming back they are tired of Thailand

Or will the tourists arrive and experience being shunned by the locals, generating even more damage to tourism.

Seems to me that our loud mouth deputy PM is partly responsible given his anti farang/dirty farang comments. Perhaps he should consider a few quick careful statements to try to reduce the damage he has done to tourism, to jobs, to income etc.

no money, no honey as thai lady say

We live in Pattaya and felt like a couple of days away. Just tried booking a few days at a hotel in Phuket and they are closed until 28 August, at least. Not really encouraging local tourism.

Try a different hotel.

The tourists will only come if no 14 day quarantine and 100k insurance, just give it another 2 or 3 months.

lock down the islands as a tourist bubble.

your vacation IS the quarantine.

After all that`s the most logical next step. The can`t keep the quarantine forever! Anyway, locals shouldn't`t bother, as just a few tourists would take the hurdles with negative covid-tests, health insurance, prior embassy visit.

It still could be a nice alternative to the actual ASQ where you have to waitlist for months and just have a few hotels to choose from! However, if that happens, they should develop this idea from A to Z. And that means...after 14 days there should be the option for another covid test (which is NOT overpriced. If negative, those people are free to travel around Thailand.

The three islands have been chosen because they are seen as relatively easy places to control any potential spread of the virus.

Very easy to control the Virus ( or any unruly behavior ) on an Island.

I am not sure that Tourists would just like to spend their whole Vacation at one Resort Island Destination. A bit like a Holiday prison, me thinks.

The will have to shut down domestic flights and close the bridge. The locals Thais can then rename Phuket to Prison island.

Or Fantasy Island!  <It's a fantasy that tourists will return anytime soon>
