Popular Post khunkarl
Was shopping at Makro yesterday. When checking out, the cashier had problems scanning the bottle with Kikkoman soy sauce. -Sorry can not - Me:No problem, I'll get another one - No can't not sell alcohol now - What? It's soy sauce! - Have alcohol 3% inside, can not - Are you joking? At this point I was clearly annoyed so two other staff arrives. Same thing, -Can not buy alcohol now. I told them follow me to the shelf with the soy sauce near by and I pointed at the shelf (which had no sign that can not buy 2-5 p.m). -I know but I can not sell now! Clearly she was annoyed now. Stupid farang should know not to buy soy sauce between 2-5 p.m. Is hand sanitizer or mouth wash OK? I didn't bother to ask.. What has happened to Thailand really? 5 1
Popular Post Eindhoven
Why you buy soy sauce with alcohol? You bad man! I buy Yamamori Tokkyu, much cheaper and no have alcohol showing. You try. 1 1
Crossy
Kikkoman is naturally brewed so contains alcohol (>2% according to their website) so technically shouldn't be sold. Hand sanitiser is OK because it contains ingredients to make it unpalatable. I wonder if they will sell other non-brewed soy sauces which don't contain alcohol.

Why is it absurd? The Thai government is doing a great job stopping people from buying alcohol from stores between 2-5 pm. Thailand has become great in the afternoons since then. Maybe next time you had better buy vinegar instead. 2 9 3

Just another bad impression. They need to tighten up visas and extensions more. 1 8 3

Irrelevant, as is the superior logic, though showing one's superior logic is one of life's greatest little pleasures, no? So hard to give up, self-defeating as it is.

This is something quite new and foreign. Think what you will, good, evil, stupid, smart, convenient, it doesn't matter. Nothing will change. The only thing you can affect is the attitude of the Thai staff who's helpfully, politely (at first), informing you of the rule. That Thai can think you're rude and childish, conforming to the stereotypical view of the stupid farang, or a nice, polite, pleasant person not trying to make her job more difficult, leaving her with a good impression that some farang are not idiots after all. 4
Popular Post tifino
time again to come up to the counter, and have them start the Checkout moves (making sure you put the Soy sauce very late into the checking) when the 'trouble' starts - do not make any fuss - just walk out - leaving the trolley and all, especially the tubs of icecream that she's in the middle of scanning... 2 1

Doesn't matter in the slightest whether we respect them. Arguing, acting superior, and whinging don't affect them. How we treat other people, notably those who have nothing to do with creating the regulations, makes a difference in how they feel about us, however. LukKrueng
What's the point to get upset with the cashier or other staff? They didn't make the rules. They tried to scan it but seems whoever scanned it into the system scanned it under alcohol category and the system won't take it during banned time, so as much as they want to help, they can't do anything. The 2 easiest solutions are buy it during "allowed time", or buy another brand. If you like a more complicated way - call or write to the Head office and ask them why it's categorization as alcohol and banned, and then try to convince them that they're wrong. Not sure you'll succeed this way though.
