As most of our members know, Thailand has been ranked number 1 in dealing with the pandemic.   In your opinion, which of the following best describes your viewpoint on how Thailand has handled the pandemic.

Thailand have done a fantastic job thus far. I have no idea how given the proximity and links with Wuhan tourism but one way or another they have been successful.

YES I agree 200%.

I live for years in Thailand and now, I feel very very safe here, just as I did before. The country did it EXCELLENT and I had not one problem at all with the way they did it. I could live my life the way I was doing before and I don't live in the middle of nowhere in the Isaan but in the middle South.

When I look at how the rest of the world is doing, yes, would do it again all over if I had too. Well done Thailand. Just hope the stats are true, as I just don't trust government ????

I'm not sure why people keep saying things like 'Just hope the stats are true'. The stats are compiled by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and verified by the WHO, and it serves no purpose to 'massage' any figures as the MoPH lives by it's reputation. The only anomoly in figures I would suggest is total amount of infected/asymptomatic individuals as total testing has fallen short of more advanced economies but I am happy that total infected and total deaths are very accurate. 

So a big well done to Thailand!!

Anyway,  I am very happy I am here and I think they have done a very good job with this.

It seems many do not like the government,  but it appears to me this Covid issue has been taken very seriously by them.  Sad yes, for the business problems but that is a world wide issue many people hurting everywhere.  Fortunately, Thai people can be minimalists and smart in some ways they can live on much less if necessary.

We have all seemed to form some deep impressions of this pandemic, cause, effect, and the reaction.

A very serious issue indeed as have been many previous pandemics.

Let us hope for its end and a return to normality.

In comparison with almost all western countries, plus large parts of Africa and South America, the Thais have done remarkably well in containing the pandemic here, mixing quick, sensible restrictions, with a degree of pragmatism when that was needed, and keeping the troops and most of the cops indoors during the worst of it.  Vote of thanks and on this issue at least,  well done to them.

I agree with the success that the authorities have had in tackling the pandemic, no question they've done a lot of things right, however at this point in time with Covid virtually gone from the country they need to provide the general public and the masses with more assistance. The people need to get back on their feet, the authorities need to show more generosity and more sympathy in regard to the millions and millions of people who are currently out of work, and they need to come up with an intelligent strategy pertaining to International tourism.

 

There are many ways International tourists can be allowed into Thailand, in a very safe manner without the overzealous protectionism that's currently in place. This kind of thing really needs to be thought through as there are billions of dollars at stake and millions of jobs on the line. 

 

Easy for wealthy authorities to be overly careful. But, people need to live.

 

I have a suggestion. Every officer in the army, and every member of the administration forego your salaries and donate them to the public assistance fund, until the economy returns to normal. You proclaim to love your nation and it's people. Do not say it. That is meaningless. Show it!

Yes ..... an excellent job by Khun Prayut Chan O Cha. Some things may have been over exaggerated or overeacted, but at the end of the day if it saved just one life then it's worthwhile.

Yes Thailand is doing well with no current in country cases

Especially when you look at other countries where in some cases are  getting worse

Thailand must be getting something right and should carry on with their positive future planning

It just means that Thailand have not been lying their hats off like other countries. In fact there has not been a single patient that died in Thailand whose death can be solely attributed to the Coronavirus Covid 19! They all had underlying problems. In other countries, every patient that appeared in the hospital or even died at home of known causes was logged as having COVID 19, whether tested or not. Oc course this attributed to the exaggerated figures. While I admire the Thai authorities for collating truthful information I do believe that the danger was and still is overstated. I do not believe we should be wearing masks and creating fear in the population

(which is the main theme here)! I further believe that the lockdown with the restrictions it imposed has done unnecessary long lasting damage to the Thai economy, its businesses and people a majority of which will never recover. 

There is a fine line between what is necessary to control such a virus and creating unwarranted fear and damage to an economy. I honestly believe (with a great deal of research I might add) that the world overreacted, politicians, doctors and officials of hospitals and government were complicit in exaggerating the danger, the figures, the lockdown they said was required and much more. To add to that they have now introduced draconian unrealistic measures on travel which will destroy tourism. The previous measures that were in place in airports, lining up, invasive searches, bottles of liquid no more than 100ml, no water? These measures had already convinced me not to travel unless absolutely necessary. Your holiday from your stressful year at work became even more stressful, so much so, that you were glad to be back home. I just don't go and stay home now or travel locally by car. These newest measures will not encourage travellers. Thai people may say now that they don't want foreigners, but when their pockets are squeesed and the prices of items go up they may have a change of heart. I fear it will be all too late then as foreigners just like most, don't want to go where they are told they are not wanted ( thanks to leaders like Anutin the mouth with his racist dirty Farang rant) unless of course you are a millionaire for whom there is always a false smile and a Sawatdee Ka.

The key seems to be the rigid application of quarantine in government facilities. Long may it continue including the immigrant workforce. A healthy outdoor lifestyle seems to help

I think that is an important comment.

The situation in Thailand is like it is because the government acted fast AND because the majority of people took this serious from the very beginning.

At least where I live and work few people refused masks. And people accepted social distancing.

And I am also sure the vast majority of Thais will accept to get vaccinated - whenever that will be an option.

 

And about the economy: Obviously it's bad and likely it will get worse. But what is the alternative? Opening up the country to tourists and then getting infections and then shutting everything down again? That sounds like a very bad idea to me. And we can see in a couple of countries what happened when they opened too early too much.

 

My personal position: It's bad as it is. Don't make it worse by opening Thailand - and the unavoidable consequences.

Really????? 1 life? To destroy a country and devastate its people, cause misery and death toll from poverty, depression. Businesses and jobs lost? For one life????? Personally i think ALL countries have done a terrible job , destroying 20-30% of ALL the worlds economies for the 0.00008% of the world's population that have died, which included the old, cancer sufferers and those run over by buses but later tested positive.  Basically 3000-4000 people have lost their jobs or income for every 1 death (death rate being 1 in 12,000 !). Personally I think that the numbers just don't add up any more. Open up, wear a mask, get on with it.

Could you explain a few of the ways in which tourists could safely be allowed into Thailand ?

Bearing in mind we would be talking about 50-100 000 tourists per day , who would be coming to Thailand for 2,3, 4 weeks at a time

Also, had the whole World acted like Thailand did, the pandemic would be over by now and the World would be Corvid free and we would all be back to normal .

  Seven months into this pandemic and Western Countries still cannot decide whether wearing masks and social distancing is necessary or not .

  I see in Germany today  there is a demonstration about the right NOT to have to wear a mask!!!!!!!

Yes. All the authorities have to do is to use a quick testing kit, like the Chula Covid 19 strip test, or a rapid antigen testing kit. Tourists get tested at the airport, at their expense. They could create more stringent testing or regulations for those coming from Zombie nations, such as the US and Brazil. 

 

Doing nothing at this point means financial devastation for millions. And what is the hapless army doing to offset that financial ruin?

One more who knows none of the facts, has read and watched only mainstream news and is happy to see the country in the toilet with more of his rights removed. Have you read anything about the virus or the so called vaccine? The virus is a Coronavirus of which there are many strains and it is continually changing. COVID 19 is just one strain. It has already mutated into many more. The so called vaccine is not a cure for all strains. The vaccine proposed is very different from previous vaccines (of which there is no conclusive evidence of their efficacy) the new vaccine will enter and change your DNA. I don't know about how much you trust lying Big Pharma and governments but I certainly do not trust them with my DNA. Look what happened to the Thalidomide children of the sixties? Mothers were promised a pain free birth and the result we know. You go and trust the vaccine if you want but do not inflict it mandatorily on everyone. Protect yourself if you think that is what you are doing. I have been diagnosed with Emphysema, Chronic Bronchitis, Asthma from which I would get repedative bouts of chest infections until the anti-biotics no longer worked. I would rather be in a room with 1000 COVID cases than take the vaccine. I have no symptoms of the above and have amazed Doctors here in Thailand who were in disbelief with my recovery. All due to my own research, diagnosis and treatment. If anyone suffering is interested in how I did it they can PM me. I am not a doctor and you must make your own assessment and take advice as you see fit.

Look please take off your tinfoil hat. A vaccin does not change your DNA.

Although if you do have the virus , it can take up to three weeks for your body to show any symptoms.

So, you may test negative at the airport , even though you do have the virus and three weeks later come down with the virus , that would mean all tourists having to spend 3 weeks in quarantine .

I don't think devastated is the correct word, yes hardships and struggle are definitely at play, however I consider the measures taken to control COVID19 and it's transmission were effective within Thailand.

About 360,0000 are born everyday, 150,000 people die every day, the virus is not killing 210,000 ever day, but about 4-7,000 only. QED, the virus death rate of 0.00008% of world population will continue to get smaller even if virus kills a lot more every day
