pj123
Is there a standard set of teaching materials used in government schools or does each school or school district make its own decision? I have read over the years on other forums teachers complaining about the poor quality of teaching materials in Thai schools. uncleP
Each school makes their own decision in my experience, however, things may have changed in the last few years. Plus teachers make money by selling their own pamphlets. Course books are generally ok but the teaching is very hit or miss.
samsensam
i like to see what my friends' children are getting up to in english. each school chooses their own text book, some make wiser decisions than others. what is concerning is the worksheets that teachers produce; both foreign and thai, that often have mistakes or lack clarity and pay no attention to grading of language. i really feel for the students sometimes. allane
To the OP: What grade(s) are you teaching ? Regular Program or English Immersion Program ?
Popular Post mrwebb8825
The "textbooks", I use the term with amusement, are basically whatever is on the kickback list. The worksheets are 80-90% plagiarized from very poorly translated "EFL" sites hence the mistakes. (Proofreading is a lost art) The "Highbrow" vernacular comes from tourist-teachers, misuse of a thesaurus or bad translations or a mixture of the 3. After 19 years teaching here I've given up on trying to fix it and focus on my students.
thequietman
Get the book, and then find alternative, proper worksheets etc., that reflect what the school wants you to teach. The chapters will give you your topic, and then design your own. Easy enough. ????
