webfact
Online campaign to help old disabled woman struggling on her own By The Nation Rayong residents have launched an online campaign to help an old disabled woman who lives in a derelict house and begs passers-by for food. The story of the woman who lives in an abandoned house near the Map Ta Phut branch of Government Savings Bank went viral after it was shared by the “Rayong We Share” group. Her case first came to light when a neighbour posted a comment saying the old woman had been left to struggle on her own despite being disabled, which had netizens questioning why she was not being provided with help and care by local government agencies and relatives. Government officials responded by saying they had visited the woman several times, but she refused their help, so all they could do was occasionally give her food and water. The Nation Thailand article references "Rayong We Share", a Thai language FaceBook Group. The post being referenced (1, 2) of that group appears to be asking people in Rayong please be be aware of the situation. This Nation article is more about it "going viral" in the original community and garnering attention, not a call for Nation or ThaiVisa readers to make contributions.
