Expats believe Thailand is correct to keep its borders closed to foreign tourists

Thailand should cut its dependence on tourism by at least 50%, or at least lower its dependence on inbound tourism.

There were reports from Genting Highlands (one of the top tourist destination of Malaysia, one hour's drive from Kuala Lumpur) that many local Malaysians were queuing to gamble at the casino tables. Players at each table were reduced by half because of social distancing rules.

Why did they state "tourists" then, why  didnt they say *people* if they were referring to everyone and not just tourists ?

Just about everyone's a tourist of some sort no matter what the shape of your 1 year visa or 30 day on arrival is ????

Those who are retired and only care about themselfs and the monthly allowance coming in are sure happy with the status quo at least until the amount gets reduced by their goverments or the inflation rises. Those running a business sure are not happy as the economy is in bits.

Well that's one way to get everyone on one side. Slag retirees while concurrently whinging about poor business people.

Business always has an inherent risk. Retirement? Less so. Apples n oranges.

"Should tourists be allowed back into Thailand " is the question .

*Should non immigrants be forced to leave Thailand *  , is NOT the question .

I cannot get out of LOS, but I need to go to Laos, now if I get to Laos for one day, you lot don't want me to get back in....????

Join them for lunch at a seafood restaurant, or queue up amidst them at 711, then get back to me.

Queue... They don't queue they push and shove. If you'd ever been to a seafood restaurant full of them you'd know that.

No surprise with those results I guess most TV members are over 65 and on a pension and not reliant on the economy for an income.
In fact they probably be happy if the Baht tanked so they are better off but isn't that a little bit selfish?

Just like in everything in the world including religions, first of of the people have to believe in the instructions to be able to follow it, otherwise the plan can’t be applied and successfully completed on them. Similar thing is happening now about this pandemic. That’s isn’t relevant what interests and reasons are behind all of this, but to wake up and realize the situation that you ppl are completely trapped and fooled again. The funny thing is people are bearing these lot of lies going around and these innocent victims will let to complete their evil plan by getting the mandatory vaccines which will be one of the biggest money grabbing in human history once again and the same time they can seemlesly inject those substances to the people which can reduce the overpopulation in the future and causing variety of health issues in the people, so their plan will be very successful alongside the profit they make for the pharma will be unmatched at it’s peak.

Tripping over there feet now to serve us.  Its nice to be only one of a few guests.

I traveled around the Eastern Coast over the last month and it was amazing. I love Thailand right now for personal reasons, mainly deserted beaches. However, I know a lot of people that need the money and I think they should reopen. I don't personally believe that covid is any worse than SARS or H1N1 which we were cognizant of, but not hysterical. Furthermore, I think that once covid dies down in the rest of the world the people left in Thailand will not have a proper immune response when they do reopen and a vaccine may or may not be reliable.

I think most Thais have a proper immune response by now. Maybe trained by yearly seasonal flu, and still improving.

All this closure does, BTW, is to delay the inevitable at a very high economic cost. That time bought should be used to optimize the test & tracing network. I haven't noticed anything like that happening, wasted time.

Please go lay down chap...????

It was a simple misunderstanding .

You said that you cannot leave Thailand and I read that as a stand alone point .

Maybe you should have written your sentence as a complete sentence and with more cohesion ?

It really needed to be asked whether the voters were affected by tourism .

A persons whose income is affected by tourism is highly likely to want them to be allowed back in again for the sole reason it personally affects him .

...him and  - just maybe- millions of others!?

There are actually people out there, who feel the pain of others!

I was referring to the fact that a majority would like to keep the doors closed, ie only thinking about No1.

We are thinking about the Country as a whole , here in Thailand we have got ourselves corona free after taking numerous measures lasting many months  , You lot in the UK didnt bother with taking precautions and now you want to come and spread the virus to Thailand .
