Former Democrat MP Watchara Petthong wrote to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Tuesday (August 4) demanding that action be taken to remove the 90 tonnes of garbage that sank along with the Raja 4 ferry boat on Saturday.

The ferry capsized in a storm at around 9.30pm some 5 nautical miles from Koh Samui, Surat Thani province.

In his letter, the former MP said the waste on board was hazardous and will affect the marine ecosystem of the area, while residents and seafood consumers may face negative consequences from the pollution.

Hence, Watchara demanded that the government immediately start removing the garbage and find out whether the ferry company was within the law in transporting it.

90 tons of garbage on three 10-wheelers, isn't that highly overloading the trucks?

Not at all, 30 ton is the normal payload of a 6 x 4 tipper...what no one is mentioning is what was that 90 ton of garbage consisted of...

Former MP? A nobody in anyone's eyes. He's out of the trough and desperate to get back to it.

The government should remove the garbage? Surely the ferry owners are responsible. The police should establish the legality of the carriage of such waste. The government governs, it should not hand hold every little incident. It has agencies and institutions.....

The Gross vehicle mass GVM of this size vehicle is usually 25,000 kg

Take away the vehicle tare weight of 10,000 to 12,500 kg and you fall well short of your 30,000 kg load.

Having said that some do tend to overload their trucks.
