Most Netflix shows are eminently skippable trash – and Netflix just admitted it

I just watched one of the top rated movies of all time, The Godfather, and will now move on to The Godfather II.

Sure there's rubbish, but some good stuff also.

Oh , I look at an episode of Doc Martin every night as well .

Lots of good action/mystery shows in Korean with readable subtitles.  Haven't watched but one English speaking show on there for several months.  Try a couple of these:  Iris, The K2, Descendants of the Sun, Vagabond, Healer.

I watch Netflix, but it's mostly the old TV shows or movies that Netflix didn't direct or produce. I tried to get into the DC comics shows, but Supergirl and their social equivalency and the ridiculous roles completely put me off. Same can be said about most of the movies and shows made in today's world. I'm okay with a Captain Marvel, but most of it is just garbage.

DC Comics have taken a massive turn for the worse, and the movie and series adaptations are an abomination.

The Batman films in particular are good to be laughed at most, hardly a resemblance to the elegant Neal Adams originals. But then since Grant Morrison it's gone totally downhill.

Absolutely love Netflix...

Netflix uploaded a record 160 nominations for the 72nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Tuesday, swamping trophy rival HBO’s 107 noms.

throw in Thai subs, and all internationally produced (not original) and it's by far the best streaming platform. (Yes, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney +, HBO, et all have great shows which I watch; Amazon's The Marvelouls Mrs. Maisel remains one of my favorite TV shows of all time.)

Not all their original feature films are awesome, but I do enjoy them: The Old Guard, Extraction recently. Project Power (August 14) will get a watch.

Favs in no particula order

BoJack Horseman

Stranger Things

OITNB

American Vandal (S01)

Mindhunter

Russian Doll

Glow

Umbrella Academy (S02 was one of the best shows this year)

Everything Sucks

All the Marvel Street Level shows incl Daredevil

The End of the <deleted> World

Ozark

Narcos

Altered Carbon

Film: The Irishman

As a kid who grew up with one channel (NBC affiliate) I am definitely spoiled now.

What about The Witcher?  I thought that was good.

Haven't watched it yet, plan to. I only listed shows that I watched, and remembered.

I did like "Cursed".

Arrowverse has been going downhill for a while.

DCU is pretty good, IMO: Doom Patrol, Titans, Stargirl and Harley Quinn (animated, and suprisingly good even though there is an F-bomb limt per ep).

I just started watching Doc Martin last week. As I have been in Thailand for so long I never watched any of the UK tv series which were popular in the 80s, 90s, 2010s, so I should have a lot to watch once I retire. Must admit though, I do not watch much TV at all. Currently, watching the documentary about murderers on death row in the US (one episode every 2 or 3 days).

Black Sails

Vikings

Son of Anarchy

Better Call Saul

Narcos

Black List

Shameless

Netflix is pretty good.

How many of those are Netflix produced shows?

I think little or none.

Many of the Netflix shows are indeed garbage.  Not even close to the production quality of HBO or Showtime.

Narcos and Better Call Saul I think. A couple of the better series. About 85% is garbage, then there are these gems.

I spent 8 years in Afghanistan and while it was available I never did Netflix. Enjoyed Amazon as I was a prime member ( orderesalot of stuff!) Been retired in Thailand for a year, of course dropped Amazon, but enjoying Netflix as is Thai gf...no complaints

No doubt that there is some real junk on netflix but also some really good stuff, you just have to seek it out with a bit of research. I like the fact that  you can find some great shows from around the world that you would never get the chance to watch normally. The best series I have seen anywhere in a long time is Netflix's 'Messiah'. This really is a brilliant brilliant piece of work - totally addictive and cannot wait for the second series. Other good stuff I would recommend Ozark, Dark (German), The Break (Belgian), The Woods (Polish), Peaky Blinders (UK), Uni Bomber, OJ to name a few.

Don't know, don't care, the shows I mentioned were great. IMHO.

The best series on Netflix are still:

1. Dexter

2. Breaking Bad

3. Walking Dead

Which, it's true, are not Netflix produced. But then Netflix did produce the Korean Film "Drug Lord", which is one of the best films at the moment.

Also Svaha is a fantastic film.

Mark Kermode has a weird taste in movies and always calls a spade a spade. Are we allowed to say that nowadays?

Only if that Spades first name is Sam, the rest are just Shovels
Just like Netflix's shows or any Company TV Chanel there's good there's bad
Some shows I like you may not different strokes for different folks
Ask any working girl

I liked Mindhunter and of course BINGED

Now Binging is a new thing when we did it before it was DVD's and we usually had seen those shows already on TV.

As for fast forwarding YUP I think its part of the Binge thing with DVD's we watched a few but never tried to watch a whole series.

So the fast forward is a direct result of modern first time watch binge we want it to get moving so we skip the slow bits.

Many shows should learn to stop before with ratings they kept some series running way to long and it shows on Netflix Amazon etc.

DARK the German show started off well but its time travel and most time travel eventually becomes a yawn.

Stranger Things should probably retire.

Most normal series used to start of with a run of 6 episodes to gauge public opinion that's not the case with Netflix Shows.

As for Kermode he used to be a delight in the face of mass commercialism but that was about 25 years ago, I imagine hes a bit tired and sad now.

Ozarks is worth a watch and lets see what Series 4 brings.
Same with Mindhunter that's still got legs.

Blacklist should have been retired at least two seasons ago.

In the Shadow of the Moon is not too bad for time travel. Not great but watchable.

I was thinking of giving Mindhunter a spin, heard good things.

Ozarks was good, even if the lead actress is highly dislikeable.

watched a few ....The Blacklist, Undercover and a couple of others.

some were rubbish and i stopped watching after 5 minutes, and as one mentioned they seem as though they were shot in a cinema with very shoddy camera work.

what type of stuff are you finding - and what is the cost...

mostly tv series are what I’ve purchased.  Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Deadwood, Dexter (got bored quickly of that one), True Detective, Fargo, Chappelles Show, The Shield, The Wire.  Recently bought a pirate series that someone here recommended ‘Black sails’ But haven’t started it.  Most series cost about US$1 per episode or less.
I do wish they had Ozarks but ok...that’s something I’ll have to miss out on as it’s Netflix only.

Movies I rent anywhere from 30-180 baht but will usually wait for the 180 baht ones to drop to 60-90 baht.  It seems as if they have every movie I have wanted to watch with the exception of ‘The Road’ with Viggo Mortensen.

I probably spend about $20 (฿600) a month with them.  Some months less, some months more.  Of course some people will tell me I’m stupid for not watching everything for free on some torrent site, but whatever.

I got NetFlix for the kids, cartoons a plenty including the brilliant Rango. I think overall the programing is not that bad,has plenty of Thai-content et...for the wife.

I had Prime Video for a while and didn't renew my forced prescription - this article should be about Prime not Netflix.

What I miss is the Kodi.

I forgot to add that I use the US ITunes.  My gf has Thai ITunes and some movies are on one but not the other.  The prices also tend to vary (when both versions have the same movie) with the Thai ITunes being about 25% more expensive about 50% of the time and vice versa.
