khunPer 6,098
I use my teen-daughter as "slow cooker" – extremely efficient – she is always slow if asked to do something, hereunder kitchen-work other than her own ideas... However, I myself "slow cook" in oven, for example about 5 hours at low temperature for a crispy juicy pork roast – perfect for pulled pork if not left for 20-30 minutes before being cut in slices, our typical Danish Christmas dinner, remember we are Vikings – or just "slow boil" in a normal pot, like when I'm making beef stroganoff; the results have always been so yummy... I’d add a large George Foreman grill to that list. (only recently though, now that I’ve seen the YouTube video on how they self clean).

thecyclist 722
Yes, they are great. You can even cook rice, although it takes an hour to an hour and a half, but you can leave the house while things are cooking. I even managed to make an omelet.
Kurtf 642
I wouldn't be without one. One favorite meal for my Thai guests is sauerkraut and pork ribs. Just put the ribs in and then pour the sauerkraut on top and I add a generous amount of caraway seeds. Cook on high for 4 hours and serve with mashed potatoes. Everyone her in Thailand raves about it. Probably because they have never tasted sauerkraut in their lives. The other thing I love about my slow cooker is the stews and soups NEVER get burnt. scubascuba3 10,550
For me it's a bit one trick pony, how many stews can you eat, I used to use it for curry but using my induction hob is better, so now it's stew or stew even the thought of it makes me nauseous
Monkeyrobot 1,045
I use mine for Lamb shanks and Beef Stroganoff, slow cookers are good for cheaper cuts of meat.

CLW 3,054
I found out that using the rice cooker gives similar results. It's not about the money to buy a slow cooker more about the limited space for storage. So why not use one machine for several purposes? There are thousands of recipes on the internet what you can cook with your rice cooker except plain rice.
