Maybe you could

pay an unemployed local to take your place in quarantine? A classic sleight-of-hand substitution trick. As long as there’s a body in the ASQ hotel room everything should be fine ????

Or jump of the balcony at midnight, run out of the back entrance, and get a taxi to Nana Plaza. Back before 5am. Do you really trust they would have handle on this?

I don't know what kind of monitoring of those in quarantine is going on, other than knocks at the doors for a daily temperature check, and the odd test during the 15 days.

Anyone know ?

you just can't believe how stupid these people are. Absolutely nobody is considering International travel right now. the economies are devastated, unemployment is rising rapidly everywhere and covid is growing very rapidly globably... i dont think they are ever going to get it. the poor Thai people are going to suffer as they do nothing to bolster the economy whilst the tourist industry is dead..

We are retiree’s with a home (owned) to run and a life to lead, our average spend per month is 80-85k into the local economy, ( Hua Hin) We made the mistake of flying home to Ireland directly after visiting our grandson in Australia on March 2nd for business reasons, we both have our health, wealth and the desire to return back to HH. Why the hell are we being excluded? Mad.

Same situation in Canada. Americans are barred from entering Canada, even those who have homes and cottages there that need to be maintained. Sad situation indeed.

No "tourist" is going to go come to Thailand under these conditions.

True but that's not relevant. Everyone can decide for him or herself whether a 14 day quarantine period is worth it or not. I completely agree with @Marco100 that having categories of foreigners is unnecessary. If someone wants to have a 1 month holiday in Thailand and spend half his time in quarantine then by all means go for it. If they'd open the borders for everyone we regain so much mobility. Lots of retirees can finally go back home. Families can reunite. Hotels, restaurants and cafes finally get some business again. And the country is still very much safe from covid-19. Everybody wins.

Maybe this year it won't be so bad if they actually let us fly in and not have to let them fleece us with their mandatory quarantine hotel and insurance scams.

What insurance scams? Are you talking about the 100k minimum insurance coverage? Because I think that's laughably low. My policy covers me somewhere well over 1 million euros. Certain Thai policies for foreigners offer similar coverage. Where I come from that's called standard health insurance. No biggy. You're a total fool if you have much less than that.

Insurance is, by and large a con. If you could live a hundred lifetimes with insurance and a hundred lifetimes without, guess which would end up better off financially?

Better off to keep your money in your pocket and pay any expenses as they arise, cut out the thieving middleman and all the shareholders.

Define 'wealthy'. Sure for pensionados on a tight budget it's a lot. But people doing regular visa runs pay at least as much. If you weigh in all the costs for hotels, visas, flights, time etc, if you do all the math well then 500k for a 5 year visa isn't expensive at all. Throw in 2700 euro or 3200 USD per year and all mandatory visa or border runs are gone. Off the calendar. Lots of people can actually save money with this type of visa. The only downside is you have to cough up the 500k at once. And now for many people it might very well be the only legal way to stay in the country long-term. Or return to Thailand. I wouldn't be surprised if they see a steep rise in the amount of applications.

I pay just over 100 euros per month for in patient and out patient care. All costs covered. And I can get the best care in the best hospitals of the country. What do you do if you end up needing a specialist to regain a normal life and the bill turns out to be well over 100k dollar or euros? Or you get sick and need expensive prescription drugs for the rest of your life costing 3000 dollars a month? I think my 100 euros is money well spent. You're probably gonna a need a fundraiser just to get basic care in a general public hospital. Good luck..

A scam where they force you to buy THEIR insurance.  I am not talking about travel medical insurance in general.

Congratulations on your policy seeing as how you seem so very proud of that.

But for the first 3 months they did almost absolutely nothing and Thai society didn't collapse. January through March there were around 7 million arrivals(Jan. 4 million, Feb. 2 million, and March 1 million). It makes no sense.

I had asked this question here and on several other forums.  None of the people that praised the swift and decisive action of the Thai government and wanted a continuation of border closings can respond to that....  The best answer I heard was "In Thailand the population came together" - which is not what they should do under distancing guidelines LOL

100 Euro per month is a great deal, if the insurance is any good.

May I ask where you got this (which company and which country)?  or are you fairly young to get a low premium?

I spent more than that buying travel insurance in the USA and there were quite a few exclusions etc.

thanks for the advice - I am sure others will appreciate it as well

As much as I would like to return to Australia to see my kids and grand kids the 14 day quarantine on return, even if in a luxury hotel paid for by the Thais, could be a real turkey shoot.  Sharing the room with Cindy and Vicky would be bearable I guess but my luck may see me sharing with Abdul and Ahmed!

I`d rather stay with Abdul and Ahmed. 100% chance for lots of weed, while Cindy and Vicky sound like an awful lot of drama

So you ride yourselves over the fields,

And your new shoes are worn at the heels ,

And you make all your Animal deals,

And your wise men don’t know how it feels................................

To be thick as a brick.

Seems Darwin was on to something.

Sounds too good to be true have you read your policy terms and conditions expect you will find only covers you up to a certain amount which probably quite small or it maybe you have been duped.

Do away with quarantine and people will start going back to Thailand and if people have done a covid test and its negative then they shouldn't have to do quarantine or self isolation I know we will fly out the earliest we can if they did it like that

You wouldn't go if the virus was out of control in a semi third world country, with a limited number of hospital facilities.

One negative covid test proves nothing. You could pass a covid test, but have caught it hours before taking it.

Thailand has no cases of Covid - why should the risk this ? The damage to the economy from a virus out of control will be even worst than what little tourism there is.

You don't seem to be aware that you can test negative on day 1 and test postive on day 12 even when you are in complete isolation

They are always trying their best about finding new ways to scam thais and farangs.

Its a mafia government filled with thugs and corruption.

My wife is a teacher and now they are ordered to come to school for meetings on sundays without any pay at all. Has been going on since the school recently opened.

The school director and his boss are totally insane and has no understanding that sundays are off limit.

This country sucks more and more and all these thugs in gov offices needs to be replaced asap, starting with Prayut and all the way down to local thugs in power.

You live in cloud cuckoo land. In what world do people pay over 3,000 usd a year to sort out their visas in Thailand? That works out at nearly 8,000 thai baht a month! if it were that expensive to maintain visas Thailand would be empty of all but a handful of pensioners, and the ones remaining would have more money then sense. Thailand is a budget retirement country, it is not Monaco. ????
