paddypower
This is a long-term issue. But I bring it up now, as we head into the next 80+ days of electioneering in the US. Both the Dems and Republicans are ready to spend a fortune, trying to solicit the support of US voters. Both Biden and Trum have had warnings issued over part-false/misleading statements. Should it be a free-for-all (which opens the door to Russian and Zhina bots) or should it be fact checked. ?
Kwasaki
Couldn't care less wish US would make peace instead of war whoever is next as President.
pgrahmm
Fact checking has been bought & weapon-ized..... It's a one sided censorship that too many sheep will follow and believe versus performing their own due diligence - finding the facts for themselves.... The genie has come out of the bottle with social media/internet dictating & dispensing "truth", with the obvious truth coming to light later.... Might as well just let them slug it out & judge by actual actions/tangible results and historical fact.....
treetops
Anyone that votes based on what they read on social media probably shouldn't be allowed to vote.
Pilotman
anyone who is dumb enough to believe almost anything they read on social media, deserves to get mislead. No need to fact check anything; most of it is BS, lies, wishful thinking , manipulation of the stupid and the gullible, or just plain fantasy and we should all know that already. scammed
no, it has become a tool for political leaders to silence opposing views, and tech companies should certainly not dictate what is politically correct to say either
paddypower
ok, the consensus seems to be let everything be posted, because nobody votes based on what they read, esp on FB. Interesting, as that means you're cool with public opinion being manipulated by the Russian and Chinese bot factories, Cambridge Analytica financed by the right wing elite (the Mercers). I consider most voters to be pretty naive. Do you think that 48 million US citizens did due dilligence, before voting a con artist grifter as POTUS? What about some very shady activities by the Russians in the UK Ref. - disclosed in the long delayed report on the failures of the UK intelligence agencies? and now the 2020 US election. https://www.bbc.com/news/election-us-2020-53702872 https://www.axios.com/evanina-russia-2020-election-interference-biden-2d2d55b9-635d-49cb-a6dc-ed83cded52ab.html and it is spreading to Germany and any country that has weak protections against destabilization of the democratic process I guess its all mai pen ri.
