Popular Post rooster59
Where to Guv?! London cabs coming to Bangkok - And the flag fall is only 60 baht! Image: Positioning Bangkok is welcoming a new player in the taxi market. CABB belongs to the Thai owned company Asia Cab Co Ltd and is offering London cab style vehicles. Rather than the traditional black they are a shiny blue. The company has a fleet of 30 vehicles made at their own production facility. The flag fall will be 60 baht with 6 to 8 baht per kilometer thereafter. In London right now it would cost 130 baht just to sit down and a one mile journey would set you back 250 to 380 baht. The cabs can be called using an application. Drivers - both male and female - are being promised a minimum 20,000 baht salary. They get a smart uniform and a big bonus for loyalty. The company has signed a deal with The Mall Group so the cars will be seen at places like Emquartier, Emporium and 5 other shopping centers in Bangkok called "The Mall" such as in Bangkapi and Ngam Wong Wan. poloshirt
It all boils down to the fare. You can have whatever Cab you want. London or New York yellow cab if it is within your budget. If you are walking around shopping mall wearing a pair of flip flop and 500 bahts in your pocket you wouldn't be taking any taxi.

Different time though now. Food and taxis can be summoned through an app. Ten years ago, it wasn’t a thing.

Yes, AOT taxis at swampy had them. Perhaps if they paint them green and yellow or pink this time it may catch on.

Why is always "Chinese"? Too much CDS (China Derangement Syndrome) in these forums. American tourists go nuts for stuff like this, and I would wager they are more likely to recognize the style of the vehicle as being a London taxi than many Chinese. And I bet quite a few British tourists would let out a sigh for home and perhaps a slight giggle at seeing these too, and want to take a ride in one and have a photo. 2
Popular Post 473geo
Somehow does not quite promote the same Thailand experience as roaring and rattling down the hard shoulder with an enthusiastic driver at the wheel in an ageing Toyota or Tuk tuk

If my memory serves, (and it has been known to be wrong!) I think that back then the "Black Cabs" were used for a sort of limo service - prebooked rather than hailed on the street or picked up at a rank. If ranks at "premium spots" such as the malls mentioned are reserved for them, then maybe it will be a money spinner. It will upset the conventional saloon car taxi blokes though - you know, the ones with the broken meters!

A bit sensitive there - where are you from, again? Back from a recent no baht tour, or just adding to the complaining that you're complaining about?

ratcatcher
Driving a London taxi (in London) is a lot more difficult than the experience your average Thai taxi driver goes through. phetphet
Those cabs are not cheap. Maybe 40 grand each. The newer electric model with the small engine even more. It's going to take a lot of fares to make a profit after either paying rent or bank.

Spotting other's errors is a piece of pith, as my mind is seeing it for the first time, as opposed to reading what I think I've written. 2
geriatrickid
Wonderful option. I would gladly use these vehicles as I dislike haggling with cab drivers who will not use the meter. I can see these popular with the Thai executive class, and the Japanese, and Chinese tourists. Edited August 8, 2020 by geriatrickid
