Absolutely. But Thais don;t stand up and say "No more". Love it how European folk say F***k the gov we do what we want!

Government should always be held in contempt, they serve the people and should protect minorities,

They will be held to account & truth will always out, non elected Global corporate bodies and individual billionaires should also be purged from influence

This goes for UN, WHO , Gated, Soros trying a one size fits all strategies on countries, these people do not have citizens interests, they are interested in power, control and are generally psychopathic

I think they are hoping COVID19 will go away soon but it probably won't ever go away.

Eventually COVID19 will become less lethal as we develop immunity but we exposure to it.

The 2 Trillion they borrowed will soon be gone then what? Borrow more?

Heard there's a plan to replace Tourism revenue with Medical Marijuana revenue

but can't see them generating that much revenue selling weed and then probably

only for a select few.

I doubled up in biz since COVID. Many opportunities now. Just depends what biz your in.

Anyway to be realistic around 25% will be affected.

The flu is still 30-50 times more deadly than covid-19,remember the 1918 pandemic?

as we all know, seasonal flu is nothing like a pandemic flu, and none of the bruhs claiming "it's just da flu, mon" are making that mistake.  they're claiming covid19 is little more than the annual flu, so let's get out there and party!

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/basics/about.html

webmd says "The number of people who die each year from flu-related causes in the U.S. is 8,200 to 20,000"

https://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/qa/how-many-people-die-from-the-flu-each-year-in-the-us#:~:text=The number of people who die each year, causes in the U.S. is 3%2C000 to 49%2C000.

we've lost 160k in under six months.

well, it is what it is.

Point and problem is that the tests do general corona, a virus existing with the Dutch since the 80s. Thus many will get positive result with even a cold.

IF they can keep the borders closed until a vaccine can be produced and widely distributed, Thailand's strategy will be proved right.

Opening the borders prior to a vaccine is basically trading Thai lives for tourist cash.

Huh  - well it looks like many here have lost possession of their faculties. Spanish flu, It's just the flu, world wide conspiracy, not as serious as anyone is claiming, Bill Gates stands to win and caused this, don't have the vaccine, as it contains nano particles and your tool will drop off OMG. Bye now. Go take a big deep breath and a stiff whisky everyone. Don't worry your darling will wait for you and remain faithful like she promised (if you keep paying her the monthly stipend) Sheesh !!

That's why I compared this covid-19 pandemic to the 1918 flu pandemic which seems to have had a much more devastating outcome and my guess is the flu is 30-50 times more deadly.

got it.  it's deadlier than the annual flu.  like a lot.  3-20k/year in the usa.  and the spanish flu was even deadlier.  like a lot.  675k total in the usa.

covid19 is somewhere in the middle, for now.  160k in six months is not enough to take it seriously?  let's see after the second wave hits, perhaps the leader of the free world will stop saying it'll magically just disappear.

I cannot believe it. They are going to forego the pent up demand from Fa-rang & Asian Tourists desperate to enjoy 'amazing Thailand', indeed there was an 'ad' on TV in UK the other day for Thailand. The economic misery this will inflict is beyond belief given it is Thailand's main earner. France,Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal are open to tourists & Brits, Germans, Dutch, Danes and Scandinavians  are desperate to get abroad. I cannot believe Thailand would do this to its nation.

Lets hope the vaccinations come soon ( they are in their  third stage at Oxford university & being tested in UK, SA & Brazil  & its looking good).

Surely Vietnam is open?

An additional levy placed on tourists of say $50 per head and simply open Thailand back up completely without quarantine and without a ridiculous medical insurance. With revenues from tourism and the additional levy they would still be making heaps of money, people back to work and The medical community become World experts at treating the virus. Make treatment of All those infected with the virus 100% free.

Thailand doesn't have the medical personnel or infrastructure to handle what would become widespread CV infections under your notion, and all the resulting sick and dead that would occur from that... no matter what kind of entry fee you envision charging.

Such a place would need vastly more doctors and nurses trained in emergency medicine and intensive care than the country has now -- apart from lacking the necessary facilities, equipment, support services to handle such a thing.

And then of course, the government would get blamed for allowing dirty foreigners to come into the country willy-nilly and start infecting and killing Thai locals.  That's simply not viable here.

In short, you're dreaming an unrealistic nightmare.

There is a far worse and insidious disease going around than Covid-19.

It doesn't have a name yet, but, symptoms include:-

Denying science.

Promotion of conspiracy theories.

Making false equivalencies (flu vs covid).

Denying the efficacy of proven methods of fighting the virus (masks, distancing, testing and tracing).

It seems to degrade the ability of people it infects to critical thinking and it may just lower IQ.

It seems to be spreading fast judging by the posts on this forum.

I think you refer to social media BS disease

If they're not letting tourists in, then I guess that the 26th Sept. deadline for stranded tourists has to be extended as well.

I'm waiting for immigration to say 2020 will be aborted, and see you again in 2021 ????

They are letting tourists out so why extend the deadline.

As can be seen in the vid I posted above an eminent scientist makes several flu vs covid equivalencies. Can you post some of the results of studies that show that actually stop the virus or are they just methods of fighting the virus to delay the inevitable as is suggested by the second waves currently doing the rounds at the moment. How long are we going to stay in lockdown mode?

For those of us who have made a home here and are being told to leave as our visas have expired and used our 60 extensions and wish to stay with our families.

Here's a novel - and unrealistic - idea: start by admitting tourists into to the country that are less likely to be a burden to the medical facilities. The first batch of tourists to be let in could be those under 60 years old and with a Body Mass Index of less than 28. Two metrics that are quite easy to check. These people can still be carriers though, but to a much smaller extent than the ones who get really sick.

It would of course be very unfair to body builders????
