Palang Pracharat Party candidate Krungsrivilai Suthinpheuk, better known by his stage name “Krung Srivilai”, has won the by-election in Samut Prakarn Constituency 5 held on Sunday for member of Parliament .

The unofficial count showed Krungsrivilai with 46,747 votes, while his main rival, Salinthip Sukkhawat of the Pheu Thai Party, secured 21,540 votes. Other candidates in the race were: Issarawut na Nan from Kao Klai Party who got 19,977 votes, Mana Boonnak from Thai Liberal Party with 8,905 votes, and Warawut Timmeuang from Paradonraphab Party with 513 votes.

The by-election saw 103,194 out of 177,308 eligible voters cast their ballots, a 58.2 per cent turnout. There were 3,309 voters who checked the “vote for no one” option.

The 74-year-old actor thanked all voters who chose him to serve Samut Prakarn locals for the third time in the last 13 years. “Being a son of a farmer, I vow to stand by the people and do my best for the sake of my hometown,” said Krungsrivilai.

Palang Pracharat Party leader General Prawit Wongsuwon congratulated Krungsrivilai on his victory and urged all MPs of the party to listen to what the people want and provide assistance to the locals in any way they can.

This is the first victory of the party after Prawit assumed the leader position on June 27, succeeding former finance minister Uttama Savanayana.

The Supreme Court had ordered the by-election following a petition by the Election Commission.

Krungsvilai was shown the yellow card in the March 2019 general election by the EC for vote-buying after one his poll associates gave a wreath and Bt1,000 for a funeral in the constituency, which violated the election law. Krungsiwilai, however, was allowed to contest the by-election.

has to be the worst wig ever. That aside, this by-election is already steeped in controversy.  A member of the Palang Pracharat Party was videoed removing ballot boxes before the votes had all been counted. The video was immediately shown to the waiting press and last night several television stations aired the video on their nightly news broadcasts.

I actually think the wig comes with the face-mask attached.
