Pattaya's silver lining from the pandemic: People enjoying a beautiful clean sea

Thai media Sophon Cable TV said on Facebook that the Covid-19 crisis has been disastrous for Pattaya economically.

But the pandemic has had a great side effect - the sea is now actually clean.

They said that Thai families were gleefully playing in the pristine waters.

Waters that were once black and murky and a beach that was full of rubbish are now inviting.

They said that massive tourism in recent years brought trash and pollution with it. This took many forms such as tourists themselves tossing rubbish, tourist vehicles spewing pollution into the air and filthy water from tourist operators discharging sewage out into the sea.

This is now over at least for now and the beach vendors are getting happier.

One told the media that there were not many visitors during the week but at the weekends there were plenty of Thais and their families.

Now that the beach and the sea is clean they want to see the authorities sort out long standing parking problems.

I was in Pattaya on Saturday. It was really quiet....lots of closed hotels, restaurants and bars. This was Beach Road at about 2pm.

Ofcourse it's cleaner. All those hundreds of boats roaming outside is just tipping over all garbage at night. Why?

Well if beach road is dirty then tourists want to go to islands.

That means more job for the boats right.....
