Three of us. The large loaf in Tops is not actually that large. Sandwiches, toast. Soon goes. But yes you are right. It is expensive. I'm going to try colinneil's suggestion and make my own. See how that goes, apprehensive as to how that's going to turn out.

let them eat cake then.

You may be right. The bread does seem different.

There was a german guy dressed in chef's whites behind the counter the other day. I was chatting to him and asked why they didn't install a food court. He said it was in the plans for the future. I just thought he might have been sent from Bangkok to oversee the launch of the new bakery. But as you say, maybe a new baker. Not seen him since though.

Went back to Tops today. There are three or four chefs in whites with Central Foods logo on them in the prep area. Looked like they were showing the normal staff what to do.

Pretty sure it's still central's own bakery. The chefs are just training the girls there. Maybe the quality has gone down, or they are teaching them how to make other breads as the range seems bigger.

Price at Tops Thonglor still the same ( 79 ThB ).
Maybe the 91 ThB is a different kind of bread.

Maybe Thonglor is not in Koh Samui but this thread is in the Koh Samui forum..

It's a lot easier than you think, I've been using this guys way for a while now and it's simple to do and doesn't require any extra equipment (or make a mess).

Phetphet make your own, when the virus kicked off i stayed home, did not go for bread at big C.

Started making my own, must say i was surprised at how good it is, now i make bread 3 times a week.

I reckon each loaf costs me 13/14 baht.

I tried to make my own a couple of times, you could

build a house with them, hard as rock, did not rise,

so I am just buying ,they say its Whole wheat ,from

Big C, for 21 Thb,just gone up from 20 Thb,

I might give the bread making another try,as you can

get better flour now, from Oz or UK, pies, scones, cakes

I can make no problem.

Wow! That looks delicious. Better than I see in some Italian restaurants. She could get herself a little business going.

I thought Tops prices are similar in all their branches.'

They are at their branch Sukhumvit 41 and 55.

Then I guess I should say Welcome to Thailand!

Thanks, however here since 2000.

Maybe Tops branches may apply each their own prices for some products.

I know by experience that for Foodland, prices in Pattaya are the same as in the so called Hi-So Thonglor.

The "old" TOPs bakery had the best baguettes on the island for 50. Really nice ones. The new bakery has medium quality at best baguettes for 60. Have also not seen the whole-grain bread for 125, also best on the island. Fresh and delicoíous even after many days

I had the exact same problem, so I put the yeast in warm water (I used one of them thermometer things), and  added a little sugar before I added it to the bread mix.

It made a big deference in the end, though I will still have to experiment with the ingredients a bit, to get something nearer to what I am trying to make.
Water at 79°F are considered the optimum temperature for achieving yeast multiplication.
