Innocent threat has Korat residents petrified

Nakhon Ratchasima residents were terrified when a man, dressed in civil servant uniform, pulled out something that looked like a heavy weapon to threaten someone who had cut the queue at a local automobile repair shop on Tuesday (August 11).

 

A video clip of the incident has gone viral.

 

The shop’s staff said the man dressed as a civil servant argued with the person who had cut the queue for 10 minutes before heading to his car to pull out something that looked like a combat weapon.

 

These terrified people in the shop, who were afraid of there being a repeat of the shopping mall shooting, which had taken place in the province earlier this year, when an angry soldier went on a rampage.

 

Chok Chai Police Station later said that the “civil servant” was the deputy director of a school in Khon Buri district and that the so-called combat weapon was a modified music instrument.

 

The teacher told reporters that he had been angered by the person cutting the queue and wanted to scare them. Though he has apologised, the other party has insisted on filing a police complaint, which may lead to prosecution in the future.

Great stuff .. you couldn't make it up .. dep' school director throws a strop a 6 yr old would proud of because someone jumped the queue pulls what looks like a light machine gun to " scare " them before pretending it's a " modified " instrument when the cack hits the fan ..

Typical  Thai  cutting the queue the same type  who wont  wait in the right  hand  lane to turn right  but will  sail down the straight  on lane then cut  across at the front, they need "shocking"

Cutting in is a national pastime in this country where road courtesy is pretty much non existent. Unfortunately if you do practice rode courtesy and etiquette you will simply remain stationary. In the times I have allowed so one to go in front of me their look of complete bewilderment and of course no indication of thanks and what must be a conversation between them as “he must be stupid”. I’ve always maintained you can read so much from a population just from its driving etiquette.

I would go as far as to say that driving in Thailand is probably the thing I dislike most about the country as it’s nearly always an unpleasant experience.

I have to disagree ! I have  many times offered courtesy in different situations and on at least 90% of those occasions I have received appreciative  acknowledgement. I have also seen and been offered similar by Thai.

I agree there are many examples of wilful and ignorant abuse of courtesy but when it comes to the  U-turn situation in heavy traffic  flow the  cause is the ridiculous and dangerous roading system which encourages habitual impatience.

You see that queue jumping all the time. Cars, motorcycles, in person it doesn't matter. They think no one will say anything. I have on more than one occasion reminded someone where the back of the line was.

May lead to prosecution... a deputy director of a school with this mentality... I'd have in remand waiting for a court appearance leading to some self reflection time in prison.

He can take the musical instrument to cheer up his inmate fiends.

I was in front of one of our local food vendor stands and of course someone came up and cut in front of me, throwing their money on the counter and saying impatiently what she wanted. I asked the vendor, "when people are growing up here doesn't anyone teach that this is bad manners?". She smiled and said, "yes, but people just do what they see other people do".

   

     The fact is that many Thai people are against the queue cutting, but most just won't do anything about it.
