webfact
76 families evacuated as fire breaks out in Khlong San By THE NATION At least 76 households were safely evacuated to Wat Samakkhi and Wat Santi Thammaram in Bangkok’s Khlong San district after a fire broke out at a two-storey apartment building in Soi Somdet Phrachao Taksin 23, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration spokesman Phongsakorn Kwanmuang announced on his Facebook page. Bang Sam Re station police were alerted to the fire at around 8pm yesterday (August 12) and rushed to the scene with fire engines and rescue staff from the Talad Plu Fire Station. The narrow soi and lack of a water source nearby hampered a quick rescue, with officials spending around two hours using 10 water nozzles to control the blaze, which had already destroyed the apartment block of 50 residential units and four adjacent buildings. Officials reported that at least three rescue staff were slightly injured by falling building materials while they helped evacuate those affected. “Thonburi district staff have also helped, providing sleeping bags, blankets and other necessary items to the evacuees,” Phongsakorn wrote. Police are investigating the extent of the damage and the cause of the fire. ThailandRyan
Fire is unfortunately a problem in densely populated narrow Soi's where you can barely get a motorbike down the middle of the road because of the way cars and such are parked. Once it starts its hard to contain. The way they build things down the small back alley ways reminds me of old San Francisco. Just glad that the families are ok. I used to always comment that "People will be ok, and whats been lost can be replaced", but with the economy and people living hand to mouth, there needs to be a way to assist these folks with clothing and other needed items.
