Hi yes I remember it was 1 tablet per day for the first week and then up the dosage after that. My experience with it was awful though..I felt nervous and dizzy and had a really hard time falling asleep.Whats worse was that the side effects got stronger with time so after 2 weeks i had to stop taking them.

The good news is i got the book Allen Carrs Easy Way to stop smoking and still not sure how it worked but i have been smoke free for almost 5 months now. I had given up many times before that, mostly New Years resolutions, but always felt like a smoker who chose not to smoke. This time I really feel like a non-smoker. I can be around smokers and it doesnt bother me/make me want to smoke.

You should check out that book, someone told me it brainwashes you!Not too sure about that but I quit really easily.

Good luck!

Hi All,

I just bought a pack of Quomem yesterday from a Pharmacy on Soi Thonglor. The cost is 2500 Baht for 30 days supply and the instructions state that i must take 1 X 150 mg tablet per day for the first 3 days and then take double the dose for the remaining days.

The reasons why i want to give up are basically concerning my health i seem to have a permanent cold and get breathless far too quickly. I smoke around 2 packs a day depending on whether i go out for a beer or not. Anyway i am going to give it yet another go and see if i can beat the deamon weed.

Cheers, Rick

Good luck Rick! Quomem worked for me, but only after I had tried it many times and in the process came to understand myself. Yes, it did give me insomnia, but I chose to stick it out because smoking is worse than insomnia. Dose was 1 tablet in the morning for 3 days, then 2 tablets (morning and night) for the rest of it, I think a total of 7 or 8 weeks.

1) Having a clear goal helps the quit. Mine was being a non-smoker by my 50th birthday.

2) Doing regular exercise helped. I felt better for it, had an improved self-image and didn't want to throw that away by smoking.

3) Understanding myself helped. For the many many times that I tried and failed, every time was because my nicotine starved brain told me that 1 wouldn't hurt, that I would not buy the cigarette. Just bum 1 off someone so I would be OK. When bumming 1 became 1 too many, I'd buy a pack, smoke what I wanted that night, then throw it away - the old I will only smoke when I drink routine. Always ended up smoking again.

4) Others have talked about it, and I did the same and found it worked. I convinced myself that I hated cigarettes, and reinforced that everytime I saw someone smoke or I thought of having one. It was true anyway, because the day after finishing 30 cigarettes in one night in the pub, I'd feel miserable about myself.

5) I refused to stay away from pubs, but told myself the moment I wanted to have a cigarette, the rule was I HAD to go straight home. Guess I love beer more than cigarettes, because it worked.

You will succeed! Understand yourself and do it the way YOU need to, and it will work.

Ahh, yes: a great drug. Originally prescribed as an anti-depressant: and the people taking it stared to find that they didn't want to smoke...Gave me some silly side affects..

Here is some infor FYI:

Quomem (Zyban) comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken one to three times a day and may be taken with or without food. Do not crush, chew, or divide Wellbutrin SR or Bupropion hydrochloride tablets. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Bupropion hydrochloride exactly as directed. Continue to take Bupropion hydrochloride even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Bupropion hydrochloride without talking to your doctor, especially if you have taken large doses for a long time. Your doctor probably will want to decrease your dose gradually. This drug must be taken regularly for a few weeks before its full effect is felt.

Bupropion hydrochloride can be habit forming. Do not take a larger dose, take it more often, or for a longer period than your doctor tells you.

Dosage

If you take several doses per day, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it and take any remaining doses for that day at evenly spaced intervals. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. If you take Bupropion hydrochloride once a day at bedtime and do not remember to take it until the next morning, skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

The correct amount is 1 tablet per day for 3 days then 2 a day, as per the pamphlet inside.

I just got off this stuff as I was having all kinds of side effects from it...still have most of the box left.

I was only able to sleep about 3 hours a night, and felt like a zombie all day long. My attention span went to zero.

Also was having upset stomach, bad taste in mouth, and actually started feeling depressed. Amazing

since they pitch this as an "anti-depressant." I would also like to note that none of the side effects were mentioned in the pamphlet, or by the drugstore clerk.

I found the actual side effects on this website and under "Zyban side effects" on the web (the stateside name for it). I was having almost all of the side effects.

As it takes a few days to build up in your system, I found that it takes a while to leave your system...3 days off of it and still having side effects.

I could not recommend this treatment to anyone.

Good Luck

I'm taking Quomen one week already. I know could be early to talk but for my weekly experience I just felt some nausea, but eating before to take the tablet reduce almost completely the problem. Until now, I didn't find other evident side-effects, except a vague stoned-feeling in my head. But this could be caused by the lack of nicotine in my body, after 30 years, because is already 2 days I stop smoking!

So I don't know how much is me and how much is Quomen, but my feeling is around 30/70.

I hope follow taking the tablets for a month don't make me an addict, so if somebody has any experience about this, please keep me informed.

Today is the 23rd day. I have arbitrary stopped the Quomen, a couple of days ago.

I can confirm, Quomen help me a lot about stop, before I can barely smoke not less than fifteen, with in 3 days I passed from 20 to 10 to 5 to 0!

Side effects: I have been lucky, just a little nausea the first days, little stoned, nothing more.

I understand I'm still in danger to start again, but I'm enough strong and the feeling I have now is just a big, deep hole, a sense of emptiness, just like you miss so much somebody, but just it lasts for a few seconds.

Still 20 tablets left, if somebody want I can give it for free.

FYI for all the above Posts. The correct dose for SMOKING CESSATION is 150Mg a day for 3 days then 150Mg twice a day until you no longer feel the urge to smoke. Dosages in an antidepressant setting and for some other off label uses can be higher. If you exceed the maximum of 450Mg per day there is a risk of seizures. This is totally dose dependant and if you stay below the 450Mg max dose the instance of seizres is no higher than with a placebo. Depending on your personally body chemistry you may feel none to all of the side effects. This drug affects potent neurotransmitters in the brain and will effect everyone a little differently. Common side effects are "speedy" headache insomnia anxiety etc. Unfortunately all antidepressants modify your brain chemistry and yes in some rare instances can actually cause depression. This is well documented and does not occur often, but it does occur. If this occurs you should discontinue use of the drug and the symptoms will clear up in a week or so. Smoking is an extremely unhealthy habit, and the side effects with this drug are minimal compared to the damage you are doing by smoking. Please do not let one persons bad experiences dissuade you from trying this treatment. Also for the one poster there is nothing in the chemistry of this drug that would cause physical addiction, and there are no reports of psychological addiction. The drug has been on the market in one guise or another for more than 20 years and is regarded as safe in the prescribed doses.

I tried to stop smoking with Quomem. The first week wasn't that bad, I reduced to 5 cigs/day. The 2.nd week I started to feel dizzy and got headaches, all accompanied with a nervous feeling and ending up in a panic attack. So far my experience...I would say, that this antidepressant causes more depression side effects than it helps :D btw its distributed only in the following countries: Luxembourg, Spain, Thailand.

I would say that says all. Be careful on self medication :)

Did you stop smoke the 2nd week?? Because I was accompained with a nervous feeling too. I guess for the need of nicotine. But after the first week without a cigarette I quit Quomen too (I still have half a box).

Now is almost 6 month without smoke one cigarette, thanks to Quomen.

I try not less than 5 times without any medication and I've always failed. First chance with Quomen and I don't smoke anymore. rolleyes.gif

@Angiud

Not stopped, only reduced. Fact is, the day I wrote the last post, I went to see a doctor, who sent me to a hospital (2 days). There I got a lot of tranquilizers and they also told me that these symptoms are well known...
