Daily News reported yet more appalling carnage on the nation's roads.

Dead at the scene of accidents on Tuesday were another 76 people.

This brought the fatality figure for the first 11 days of August to 483.

The total for 2020 stands at 8,516.

Many more will have died after deaths on the way to and at hospitals are added to the tally. The death toll on the Thai roads has been accepted by government figures as being in excess of 20,000 annually and some estimates put the figure at between 24-26,000, notes Thaivisa.

Reporting on the latest deaths in an ongoing campaign to raise awareness of the carnage, Daily News said that a Mitsubishi Triton driven by a 63 year old man had hit a power pole in Muang district of Buriram.

It burst into flames and locals managed to extricate the driver before he was incinerated. He was alive and taken to hospital.

His wife later went to the police and said that he had been tired from work.

It is thought he fell asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle.

The media warned the Thai public about driving while tired.

Huge signs that say in Thai "Nguang Jort Phak" (sleepy, take a rest) have been erected on the highways all over Thailand in recent years in an effort to combat this, notes Thaivisa.

Not including those who die in hospital is typically insane.

"Thailand had the world’s second-highest rate of road fatalities per capita.." (2015 numbers)

"The government vowed at a United Nations forum in 2015 to halve the number of road traffic deaths by 2020."

So much for vows....

US has 36k deaths last year

Thailand maybe 25k, numbers game

USA is about 5x population of Thailand....

4 hours ago, Paiman said:

They do like the Power poles.

They do not grasp the fact, that 2 items can not occupy the same space.

Something basic is missing.

IT is about time that the authorities realised that they could cut road accidents by half simply by burying all power cables and of course removing these highly suicidal power poles.
