I notice he doesn't declare how he came to this bizarre low unemployment count, with the decimation the economy is going through. 6

Popular Post JusticeGB
The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce estimated in April that about 10m Thais in the tourism industry would be unemployed by the end of June if the epidemic hadn't been ended by then. At the end of April 4m people in the tourism industry had lost their jobs. So this 2m figure has been plucked out of a hat. The 10m figure was only for the Thais employed in the tourism industry! 4

Redline
He left off the zeros. He probably thinks tourism is down 20 percent as well.

And of course, many lower paid Thai workers aren't in the social security system. Thats also why they always in the past have come up with these less than 1% unemployment figures. So, once again : Do those self-employed "informal" workers outside the social security system count as unemployed if they lose their jobs?
Sheryl
It does not necessarily follow that losing a job means you become completely unemployed and remain so. People generally respond to loss of a job by seeking out other livelihoods. It is entirely possible that 6 million could have lost tourism related jobs and just 2 of those 6 be completely unemployed now. In fact, sounds reasonable. But the other 4 will often not be making anywhere near what they previously did. "Employment" might simply be helping out on the family farm or in a family owned business back in the home province. sammieuk1
As he said he would monitor it, has he monitored it? or is it just a wild wild guess or is it the next stage where he has to lay down in a darkened room ????
robertson468
The problem with this Government is that they don't realise people will check what they say and when it proves to be outrageously wrong fail to justify their announcement, leaving the public thinking how silly they are.
