rooster59
Thai woman makes a swim for it to return home across the border Image: 77kaoded Thai media 77kaoded reported that a military border detail in Chiang Rai stopped a Thai woman from the north east who was drenched in water carrying an equally wet bag. She explained that she had crossed over to Myanmar illegally on July 27th but had been unable to get back by that route. So she took her chances swimming across the Mae Sai river that was swollen by flood waters. She made it but had had to pay someone on the Myanmar side 3,000 baht. She was in possession of Thai ID and her name was Rasamee, aged 38. She was handed over to immigration for prosecution for illegal entry and 14 day quarantining. Popular Post warcy
I think it's ridiculous, preventing your own citizens from coming back. Myanmar is a safe country with very low virus cases. 4 1

She is just trying to avoid mandatory 14 days quarantine. 9

I am not sure what the penalty for illegal entry for a Thai citizen is. The constitution gives them an automatic right to enter the Kingdom but Immigration of course wants to record there comings and goings nonetheless. She might get a 500 baht fine for that but the real issue is quarantine. However, state quarantine is free for her and she will get free food as well as lodging. Lucky she could swim well enough to make it. Good for her.
