I always believed Budhism to be a compassionate religion, see how they care for the diseased and often dangerous soi dogs for example. Is this now the new face of the religion?

I have had Thais explain to me that it is karma coming back on these people.  They have done something bad previously so they deserve it.  The same has been explained to me as to why some Thais have no caring for animals, they are just bad people reincarnated and they have to pay for their previous sins.  It may be what some Thais believe but I am sure their attitude has Siddhartha rolling in his grave.

Lots of homeless drink to forget the life they find themselves in. The hopelessness they drink to forget.

There but for the grace of god.

As the poster above said. Society is judged by how it treats its poor.

Maybe so, but its the same in every country, rich and poor alike.

You need to BE homeless before you can show the proper attitude toward the homeless. I have not encountered a single expat in Thailand who has any compassion for the homeless. Most of us are about two paychecks away from the street.

There are places. I think there is one such place on Sukhumvit, only the left when driving from Pattaya northbound.

I forget the name at the moment.

I know that they are not so cute. But perhaps if they sit next to Soi dogs they get some help too... We need a Soi Homeless Humans Foundation. Yesterday even an older Farang asked me for money. How should this end?

It's not a problem wich can be solved with an easy and quick solution

''

The Chonburi Homeless Protection Center have invited dozens of homeless to come and stay at local shelters along with offered many people not from the province bus tickets to return home and see family, if it applies.  They stated in meetings this week that these measures have helped, but many decline entering the shelters or have no family to return home to. Many of the homeless previously worked as vendors that sold goods to foreign tourists or other informal jobs and have a low level of education and cannot get most formal positions in the current environment, according to Chonburi officials.

Pattaya City Law Enforcement have stated that complaints on aggressive homeless bothering local residents and expats have increased and they have focused on those who are mentally unstable or have extreme drug or alcohol problems in order to protect the public. However, they also stated that arresting or locking up the homeless was not the answer.

The Pattaya News has previously been offered by some hotel owners whose hotels are currently closed to allow homeless to stay in their buildings.  We note that if there are individuals interested in possibly helping to reach out to the Chonburi Homeless Protection Center and local officials by calling the 24 hour contact center at 1337. Several local temples have also been reaching out to the homeless and providing support as well.''

Wow. Another false narrative TVF story. Now member attack thai people, rich people and Buddhism.

Is a facebook post. News? Only 7 people post comment.

4 is reasonable comment.

3 not good.

Thitaporn say she try give them food before. They not want, they want money for Lao Kao. = she prefer to help dog and cat.

I agree, give money buy alcohol is not help them.

But "Sanny Sandee" went further suggesting that the homeless had hands and legs and were not incapable (of work).

She called them "khaya sangkhom" (society's rubbish or the dregs of society).

Sandee is mia farang.

Not that they are a problem eh?

I always feel a bit disturbed when people show compassion to animals over and above their fellow man.....

Oh, Thai stray dogs are not at the lowest level in the Sakdina hierarchy. There are many humans on lower levels. Especially if of foreign provenance, however.

It is not easy to help such people. You can give them food and money. But if you really want to help them you need to give them a future. And this is a very different story then.

I can't do nothing for their future but giving them some food or money to buy food is better then stepping over them like their a bit of dog <deleted> or they just don't exist ,it would at least kill the hunger pains and them hydrated for awhile.

Strange how you don't see the monks walking around offering comfort and food to these unfortunates.

Normally a reverse situation and they are the ones looking for handouts.

And now they planning to buy submarines????what about the poor people??

Just spoke to my Lady.

The submarines haven't made the local headlines yet.

But she is having salad for Tea.

No pork, no chicken, no fish in the local market.

(Nangrong)

Strange country that shows no humanitarian feeling to its people but buys more submarines...

wrong Santa Monica is the new  Bangladesh

Very true. Los Angeles is full of people living in tents on the street. Santa Monica, being it's own city, has laws restricting this. However Venice, which is just South of Santa Monica, is part of Los Angeles city and also full of tents. It's not just the tents but boxes and bags full of their stuff and some people hoard 'stuff'. In downtown Los Angeles tents are on every street. Even on a new pedestrian bridge that goes over the freeway. I now live in Thailand, just north of Chiang Mai. We don't have that problem here, thankfully.

Poverty and addiction are not just an individual problems, they are problem stemming from the heart of society at large. They thrive on poor education, hopelessness, and inequality. When a society doesn't work to minimise the gaps and holes that exist between those at the top, and those at the bottom, then poverty and addiction rise up like a stench that effects us all, as can be seen from the callous and heartless responses from local Netizens. The minds that give voice to these words, are the same ones that are a major cause of the problem.

Not a problem unique to to Thailand.

A destitute asylum seeker was found lying dead next to her malnourished baby son in Glasgow, according to a charity.

Mercy Baguma, from Uganda, was found dead in her flat in the city’s Govan area on Saturday with the child crying beside her, Positive Action in Housing (PAIH) said. Authorities confirmed they had discovered the body of a 34-year-old woman.

You can tell a lot about a society by how it treats its people in need.

Only if they are in need. A few years ago I was sat at a pavement cafe in Amsterdam and across the road there was a woman lying on the pavement with a cardboard sign that said something like " help, deaf and dumb". About six o'clock she got up and walked across the bridge, pulled off her wig and coat and climbed into a merc that had pulled up.
