Popular Post webfact
School director who killed three people during gold shop robbery sentenced to death by Thai court A school director, who killed 3 people, including a young boy, while stealing about 665,000 baht worth of gold ornaments from a shop in Thailand’s central province of Lop Buri in January, was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court on Wednesday. According to the public prosecutor, the defendant, 38-year old Prasitthichai Khaokaew, then director of a primary school in Sing Buri, robbed the Orora gold shop, in the Robinson shopping mall, on January 9th this year. During the robbery, the defendant used his semi-automatic pistol, equipped with a silencer, to kill Mr. Thirachat Nimma, a security guard, and Ms. Thidarat Thongthip, a shop employee. twocatsmac
I agree 100% with death penalties but if this guy had confessed immediately and been caught in an easier manner, he would have escaped the death sentence. That’s the part I don’t agree with, criminals (not just in Thailand) are often caught “bang to rights” and have punishments halved by fessing up to their obvious guilt. Not sure though how to administer half a death sentence.
Popular Post dddave
I understand the death sentence is more than justified in this case but I actually believe that a life sentence without possibility of parole in a Thai prison is a far harsher punishment. Once he's dead, that's it. Laying on a floor of a 40 square meter cell, nose to tail with 50+ other sweaty and decidedly unpleasant individuals and knowing 40+ more years of the same await you, night after night is true hell on earth.

webfact
Ex-school principal gets death sentence for killings in Lopburi gold shop robbery By The Nation The Criminal Court on Thursday (August 27) issued a death sentence for the man behind the fatal gold heist in Lopburi province earlier this year. Prasittichai Khaokaew, a former school principal in Singburi province, was taken to the court on Ratchadaphisek Road to hear the verdict for the gold-shop robbery in which he shot dead three people, including a two-year-old child, and seriously injured one other. The defendant was also fined Bt1,000 and ordered to pay compensation to all victims, including a 7.5 per cent per annum interest rate, until the payment is completed. According to evidence presented to court, the attacker was holding a 9mm automatic firearm with a silencer when he entered Robinson department store, where he shot and killed security guard, a toddler and a woman at the Aurora Gold Shop. He also shot and seriously injured a fourth person. Prasittichai then helped himself to 22 one-baht gold chains and 11 one-saleung gold chains worth Bt664,470 before fleeing on a motorbike. He was arrested on January 22 over nine charges, including using firearms without permission, murder and attempted murder. So given the death sentence but wont be carried out until he has paid all the money owed ? How ridiculous this sentence is ,infect him with the virus and put him in solitary confinement so he suffers same as the families of the people he killed are suffering . 4

In a clear-cut case like this, they should carry the sentence out quickly, maybe giving the sentenced 30 days to ponder an appeal or something. 4MyEgo
We all have a sinking feeling in a couple of years time he will be given a reduced sentence to life in prison because of external pressure, you know the goodie goodies not wanting death penalties because no one can be above God, suffice to say, it can be so easy for some prison warden to give someone an ice pick to stick in his neck and then take it back and quickly dispose of it while he chokes and bleeds to death slowly. I will say a pray tonight that it happens, who said I can't be religious when I want to be.

SinCityGr8One
Death Penalty don't mean anything in Thailand. He will die of old age first. How about those 4 Thai's sentenced to Death a few years ago. Let out on Parole to take care of personal stuff, given a report back date and never seen again!

Apart from that, "to all victims" probably should read "to the families of the victims", right? The victims are DEAD, you know? I apologize for being so blunt, but it's fact. 22 hours ago, webfact said: until the payment is completed. Don't carry out the sentence too soon then... it might take quite a few decades before he has paid off everything - by which time he will have died of ripe old age.
