Thailand not opening to foreign tourists any time soon

The indecision is not on the part of the people. The people and business want borders thrown open, tourists welcome, and life to restart.

The details that are delaying decision have already been sorted by most other countries. Decisions must be made, and soon, because the country is hurting, its future in peril.

Decisive action is needed, no more paralysis.

The target should be borders open for a bumper high season 20/21.

Hijacking is going on, when will thais take the streets to stop this incapable government? The last 15 years they came out for much smaller issues.

Not only thais are hijacked also many foreigners in and outside Thailand.

Like it or not, this government has done a very good job of handling the COVID crisis.

The yellow shirts only came out in numbers fifteen years ago after a massive propaganda campaign against the then PM by Sonthi's media empire and payments to attend rallies.

After the precedent was set, the red shirts had Thaksin paying them to be shipped down from up North.

As there is now no paymaster I doubt there will be anything other than the students out on the streets.

"Entry will also only be limited to tourists from Covid-free countries".

There are only, currently, 10 Covid-free countries.

1. North Korea ????????

2. Turkmenistan ????????

3. Solomon Islands ????????

4. Vanuatu ????????

5. Samoa ????????

6. Kiribati ????????

7. Federated States of Micronesia ????????

8. Tonga ????????

9. Marshall Islands ????????

10. Palau ????????

11. Tuvalu ????????

12. Nauru ????????

Good luck with that.

Turkmenistan is not Covid free. They are not testing for the virus. They just get on with their lives. The president didn't need the virus to install a totalitarian rule, as Turkmenistan is a dictatorship already.

'She added that the government needs to consider many factors, including guidelines, screening processes and measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 to ensure there is no second wave of infections.'

Perhaps she has also realised that with all the additional requirements, nobody will want to come anyway?

It's already been mentioned many times in great depth, so I won;t go over old ground any more than I have to, but coming to Thailand under the present conditions e.g. 2 weeks quarantine and then walking round with a GPS ankle bracelet  wrist bracelet tracking their whereabouts, and all the other restrictions, is NOT going to attract tourists!!!

(Except maybe the few who want to visit a prison as part of their agenda of "tourist attractions"!)

Same to North Korea and Thailand

This is interesting. They will only allow tourists from "Covid-free countries", but still require them to quarantine for 14 days, even though they're coming from Covid-free countries!

This is something that I anticipated they would do. Continue to require quarantine in these expensive 5-star resort hotels, even after there will be a need for it. If they truly want foreign tourism to come back, they had better do away with this requirement or the tourism industry is doomed for sure.

"According to the Phuket Model, tourists will be allowed to land on the island, but they will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine first and their travel zones will be limited. Entry will also only be limited to tourists from Covid-free countries."

Its to ensure folks spend there money in a resort where the government folks have a vested fiduciary interest.

Open for Xmas/NY never been in doubt from day 1.

They can keep putting out these swerve balls but at the end of the day they can’t sustain an economy without foreign tourism despite what the odd foreigner thinks whilst sitting on a deserted beach.

What is the best definition for all these (same) themes ?

One step forwards ...2 steps backwards

One step backwards...One step forwards

Or Running in circles

And that is only the beginning I guess...but then again no need to read the new posts...just make a screenshot of the 175+ announcements  and counter-announcements and have them pop up on the screen depending on your mood. To read  and react without moderation lol

just follow the U turn country that is making these start and stops fashionable..

so what is it ?  first the 5 S's, then 5 R's and the 5 T's and now the 5 BS weekly update, we do need a good laugh because TGIF.... they can't make up their mind, they just throw words out there without even thinking about what they are saying 555

Everything we've read about the Phuket model has come from tourist authorities, not from the government. Never listen to TAT, they are so far from reality it's mind-blowing.

Don't say that. This government is very smart, well-educated, generous and loves the Thai people passionately. They've just had a bit of bad luck. Could happen to anyone.

Seems 32 'dislikers' aren't on to this yet. It's sarcastic humour folks!. Well i think it's funny Steve????
