Hunt on for elder sibling after brother shot and beheaded in sugar cane field

Police and rescue services called to a sugar cane field in the Ban Rai area of Uthai Thani at the weekend found a grisly scene.

Dead from a suspected gunshot wound to the torso was 23 year old Anuwat, a local who was a Karen tribesman with Thai nationality.

Twenty meters away from the torso was the victim's head.

Also at the scene was a bottle of weedkiller and a bloodstained knife like one used for harvesting sugar cane.

The assailant is believed to be the victim's 32 year old brother Anucha. The pair had had a long running feud that had recently resulted in the younger man beating his elder brother and chasing him out of the house.

Anucha is believed to have fled into the jungle.

His relatives said he was mostly the innocent party in the feud but had obviously snapped.

He had often said that if anything happened he would take his own life rather than face prison.

Consequently they believe he has fled to commit suicide.

An autopsy was carried out Saturday and the funeral of the dead man is today.

Ban Rai police in the central Thai province of Uthai Thani are investigating.

They have posted on their FB page a request for him to attend Ban Rai police station at his convenience (preferably between 9.00 am and 3.30 pm Mon to Fri).

Peace returns to the neighbourhood.
